Noah walked out of Kuoh Academy, turned back for a look at the school gradually darkening beneath the night sky, then shifted his gaze to the person beside him and let out a helpless sigh.

"Why did things end up like this?"

"It was President Rias's order." Carrying a backpack and looking like an elementary school student, Koneko walked slowly beside Noah. She stared straight ahead, her flat voice making it impossible to tell whether she was answering Noah's question or talking to herself.

"An order has to be obeyed."

That was what she said, but there was no way Koneko did not know why Rias had arranged for her to live with Noah.

Since they did not know whether Noah was truly connected to demons, angels, or Fallen Angels, Rias had every reason to be cautious.

Putting Koneko at Noah's side could be described nicely as having a servant personally witness that Noah had no intention of doing anything strange. Put bluntly, though, it was surveillance.

If Noah had not displayed the strength to crush Yuto Kiba so easily, Rias would not have treated him with such caution.

Yet Noah happened to possess exactly that level of strength.

As the hidden ruler of Kuoh Academy and the next head of a pure-blooded devil family, Rias naturally needed to keep an eye on an uncertain factor like Noah so that angels or Fallen Angels could not exploit him.
