"Who are you people?" Staring at the well-dressed young man with a gentle smile standing before her, along with the armed personnel behind him, Jill showed no sign of relaxation, her expression wary as she questioned.
"We're from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. I'm Coulson. We're here to help you." Upon hearing this introduction, Shen Fei couldn't help but give him a few extra looks.
If not for the self-introduction, Shen Fei really wouldn't have recognized this man as Coulson from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s agent ranks.
"Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division." Hearing Coulson's introduction, Jill furrowed her brow. The name sounded impressive—covering attack, defense, and logistics—but this was the first time she'd ever heard of this organization.
It wasn't that Jill was ignorant; before superheroes went public, S.H.I.E.L.D. kept a very low profile. Aside from a select few, the vast majority of people had no idea what this agency actually did.
Of course, S.H.I.E.L.D. was still called the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division at this point. Honestly, Shen Fei had never really bothered to memorize that name.
"Can we talk about this after we leave here?" Coulson noticed Jill's confusion but didn't explain. After all, some things simply couldn't be clarified.
"There are still some children in the basement." Considering the current state of Raccoon City, Jill nodded in agreement.
As for the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, Jill mentally categorized it as something similar to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the CIA.
How many organizations a country had—unless someone specialized in studying them—even people within the system wouldn't know, especially for groups that looked like spy agencies.
"Children, understood." Coulson said, immediately ordering his subordinates to help.
"Little guy, these aren't toys for you to play with." Before boarding the aircraft, Coulson confiscated all the firearms on Shen Fei, including the military knife on his person.
After this confiscation, Coulson looked at Shen Fei with a strange expression. He never expected a kid to be carrying so much ammunition.
Aside from two pistols and two military knives, Shen Fei's leg pouches, waist pouches, and even his chest pockets were all stuffed with magazines.
Meeting Coulson's surprised gaze, Shen Fei silently turned his head away. He couldn't exactly say this was a side effect of watching Resident Evil—the biggest fear in that scenario was running out of bullets at a critical moment.
"There are quite a few children here. Prepare accordingly." Once everyone was on the aircraft, Coulson immediately contacted the base via radio.
Through a window on the side of the plane, Shen Fei got a full view of Raccoon City's current state—a sea of flames, smoke rising everywhere.
A large number of helicopters and a few Quinjets were patrolling the skies over Raccoon City, while S.H.I.E.L.D.'s special strike teams advanced methodically on the ground.
Compared to Umbrella Corporation's strike teams and the military's special forces struggling in hard-fought battles, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s teams swept through everything in their path.
This was all due to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s equipment being far superior to the other two.
The Zombie Dinosaurs that had caused heavy casualties among Umbrella's strike teams and the U.S. military's special forces were instantly vaporized by a beam of light.
Energy weapons. Many of the S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives now moving through Raccoon City were carrying exactly that.
This wasn't some movie or TV show where S.H.I.E.L.D. had all that powerful gear but never used it. Nick Fury was a man of pure pragmatism.
In this world, during World War II, under the leadership of God's righteous man, Captain America, the evil Hydra was defeated. Most of the weapons Hydra developed were confiscated by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s predecessor, the Strategic Scientific Reserve.
That was World War II, and Hydra already had energy weapons back then. So why not now?
The Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division was established largely because of these energy weapons. After the war ended, these spoils became the focus of contention among nations.
These weapons were too dangerous to just distribute freely. So what to do? The five major powers decided to jointly form an organization to guard these dangerous arms.
But Nick Fury was Nick Fury. Even though the Division's regulations forbade easy use of these weapons, given Raccoon City's situation, Fury had no problem authorizing limited deployment of these energy weapons.
"Die, monster." Inside Umbrella Corporation's underground lab beneath the Raccoon City Police Station, Barton watched coldly as the mutated William, blown apart by an explosive arrow, fell into the massive furnace below.
"Natasha, how's it going on your end?" Barton immediately spoke into his earpiece.
"I'm a bit busy. I'll contact you later." Hearing the sounds of a fight through the earpiece, Barton was taken aback. He knew this teammate well—she was top-tier among agents. He hadn't expected her to meet her match here.
"Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. I thought you were dead, but it turns out you joined them. That name, tch." Ada, after kicking back Natasha with a single blow, shook her head with a smile.
"Ada Wong. I didn't expect to run into you here. Hand over the item. You should know what consequences that thing will bring." Both were top figures in the same circle, and though they'd never met before, they'd heard of each other's reputations.
"You mean this? Sorry, but you don't get to decide." Ada said, preparing to leave with the G-Virus. But the Black Widow wasn't about to let her go. As Ada retreated, Natasha immediately pressed the attack.
Facing the Black Widow's assault, Ada didn't counter this time. Instead, she accelerated her retreat, then quickly drew the Grappling Gun from her waist, fired it into the staircase above, and soared upward.
"Barton, it's Ada Wong. She's escaping with the virus. Sector C3." Watching Ada above, the Black Widow immediately contacted Barton.
"Got it."
"Don't shoot! I'm a police officer reporting for duty." As Leon and Claire entered Raccoon City, they were immediately surrounded by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strike team. Seeing the weapons in their hands, Leon wisely set down his small pistol.
It had to be said, Leon and Claire were lucky in this world. They arrived in Raccoon City only after S.H.I.E.L.D. had already intervened.
Inside a newly established base outside Raccoon City, after a series of checks, Shen Fei was finally cleared as safe and released.
As he walked out, Shen Fei immediately spotted Sherry being led away by a cold-faced female agent. He rushed forward, but before he could get close, two strike team members blocked his path.
"Sherry! Sherry!" Shen Fei shouted loudly.
His voice caught Sherry's attention. Turning back and seeing it was Shen Fei, she looked up at the cold agent. After receiving a nod, she ran toward him.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, but Mom and Dad..." Mentioning her parents, Sherry suddenly hugged Shen Fei and burst into loud sobs. Her experience in the lab was a nightmare she'd been holding in. Now, seeing a familiar face, she finally let it all out.
"Time to go." Before long, the cold-faced female agent walked over and said flatly.
"Melinda, let them have a little more time." Before Shen Fei could speak, Coulson approached from the side.
"The Director is waiting." Facing Coulson, the female agent remained as indifferent as ever.
"Melinda, huh. So this is how she is now." Looking up at the cold agent, Shen Fei immediately asked, "Where are you taking her?"
"That's not for you to know."
"No wonder they call her the Iron Cavalry." Shen Fei, having been rebuffed, muttered to himself.
"Don't worry, we're just taking her for a checkup. It's for her own good. You'll have plenty of chances to see each other later." Coulson said with a gentle expression.
"Hmph." Melinda let out a cold snort from the side, as if utterly disdainful of Coulson's attitude.
"So she's about to join S.H.I.E.L.D. That's not a bad outcome for her." Shen Fei thought to himself as he watched Sherry and Melinda disappear together.
Joining S.H.I.E.L.D. was still better than joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation like in the Original Work. Especially with Melinda leading her, the experiments on Sherry would likely be far fewer than in the original story.
Melinda might seem cold, but she was actually someone with a warm heart beneath a stern exterior. The reason she was so different now from her later self was that she hadn't yet gone through the events that would change her.
"Kid, how about joining us? That way you can see her often." Just as Shen Fei was about to leave, Coulson suddenly called out to him and said this.
"Huh." Coulson's words left Shen Fei stunned.
"I've asked around about you. We have a place where you can go to school." Coulson continued. Perhaps because he was so surprised by the number of bullets Shen Fei had taken earlier, Coulson had gone to ask Jill, Rebecca, and the people at the Orphanage.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy." Shen Fei immediately knew what place Coulson was referring to when he mentioned a school. Fitz and Simmons from Coulson's team in the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents series came from that academy.
Of course, it probably wasn't called S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy by that name now.
"Think it over. You can talk to Rebecca—she's already agreed to join." Coulson added.
"Rebecca joined S.H.I.E.L.D." Well, now everything was completely thrown into chaos.
