"It worked." After examining Chris, the doctor who had rushed over couldn't help but exclaim. This was no ordinary hospital—it had been established by the United Nations specifically for biological viruses. Patients infected with bioweapons viruses from all over the world were generally sent here.
"Then hurry up and produce the vaccine." Hearing that, Chris spoke urgently.
"Well, the current results are promising, but we still don't know whether there will be any Side Effects. It would be best to observe for a while," the doctor said hesitantly.
"People will die if we keep observing." Under Chris and Jill's strong insistence, all those infected with the virus were ultimately given the vaccine. Just as Chris had said, they were about to die anyway, so who cared about Side Effects?
If there really were any Side Effects, observing them after the injections would be the same. Therefore, to avoid possible Side Effects, Chris and his teammates would be unable to return to the front lines anytime soon.
"Thank you." Jill looked at Shen Fei with gratitude filling her eyes.
"You're welcome. This is what I came here to do. Without you risking your lives on the front lines, we wouldn't be able to conduct research so peacefully in the rear," Shen Fei said.
After thanking him again, Jill hurried away. The emergence of a new bioweapon virus was hardly good news for the BSAA and FBC.
"What? A virus vaccine has appeared?" The swift arrival of a vaccine for the new virus shocked every bioweapon expert on the island. The speed was simply too fast.
"I received Jill's message. This time, it's all thanks to you." Rebecca contacted Shen Fei soon afterward. After learning that Chris had been infected, she had remained in the laboratory conducting research, hoping to save him.
"How did you do it?" Rebecca asked the question that weighed most heavily on her mind.
"I just discovered the structure of this virus, then got rather lucky afterward." Shen Fei explained the general idea. It sounded simple, but actually doing it was incredibly difficult and required constant experimentation. Shen Fei had been so fast because the Op-Op Fruit allowed him to skip those trials.
The T-Abyss Virus held no value whatsoever for Shen Fei. It was purely a bioweapon virus. It was rather strange—Umbrella Corporation's T, G, T-Veronica, and Uroboros Viruses had initially all been intended to improve humanity. According to Umbrella Corporation, they were meant to create a new race of humans.
Later viruses were nothing more than bioweapons.
At some point, bioweapon virus research had strayed from its original purpose. In that respect, Umbrella Corporation's goals were far nobler than these people's. It truly was a tremendous irony.
"Damn it, how is this possible?" Somewhere on Terragrigia, a leader-like man heard that a vaccine had appeared and angrily threw a military dagger aside. The dagger sank deeply into the nearby wall.
"Do we continue with the plan?" one subordinate asked.
"I'll think about it." The leader drove all his subordinates from the room, then immediately contacted someone by phone.
"Didn't you say there was no vaccine? What's going on now?"
"There was just a minor accident. We can only move ahead of schedule now. The operation begins tomorrow night. My side will cooperate," the person on the phone said.
"This is too rushed. My people aren't ready yet."
"We must act tomorrow night," the person on the phone emphasized again.
"If you insist, it's not impossible. But this time, I want triple the price."
"No problem."
"Hello, Mr. Shen. Our boss would like to see you. Please come with us." The next evening, Shen Fei was alone in his room watching a movie when four fully armed uninvited guests suddenly arrived.
"I don't believe I know your boss." With three guns pointed at him, Shen Fei raised his hands as he spoke.
"You'll know him once you go." The leader-like man gestured toward the person standing behind Shen Fei. That man immediately took out a syringe and walked toward Shen Fei.
Trouble came far too quickly. Just as Shen Fei prepared to make his move, an almost imperceptible gunshot rang out in the room. A bloody hole seemed to appear in the head of the man behind him, and he collapsed.
Only after he fell did the other three react, but by then it was too late. Three muffled shots sounded, and all three collapsed as well.
"I didn't expect you to be so popular." Someone emerged from the adjoining room, someone Shen Fei had never expected to see—Ada Wong. She held silenced pistols in both hands. She had been the one to take out those four people.
"Your work is truly unexpected." After a brief pause, Shen Fei smiled.
"Your reaction is more unexpected." Shen Fei's attitude made Ada instinctively wary, and she immediately aimed her guns at him.
"Are you here to bring me to meet some boss too, just like them?" Shen Fei appeared utterly unconcerned by Ada's actions.
"Yes. Please." Ada nodded lightly.
"But what if I don't want to leave? If your boss wants to see me, he can come himself."
"You really think I won't shoot?" As Ada spoke, her gun barrel began to move, seemingly searching for a spot that was not vital.
"Of course you will. But—" Shen Fei flicked his right index finger upward, and the two guns in Ada's hands immediately flew into the air. However, to Shen Fei's surprise, he had intended to use this move to take Ada's guns, yet Ada herself was lifted into the air as well. In the next moment, she released her guns and landed. The instant she touched down, she drew another gun from behind her waist.
Just as she was about to fire, she discovered that the gun in her hand had been sliced in two, as though cut by an invisible blade.
"Don't make another move, or I won't be polite." Holding a scalpel in his left hand, Shen Fei immediately spoke when he saw Ada preparing to act again.
Shen Fei had activated the Op-Op Fruit's power back when those four men first pointed their guns at him. At that time, he had detected an additional person in the room, which was why he had not directly used the Op-Op Fruit to kill the four men. What he had never expected was that the extra person would be Ada Wong.
The thing that had sent Ada's guns flying was the Baton.
"A Superhuman." Ada stared at Shen Fei in surprise. Although this world had no mutants, people with superhuman abilities were not uncommon. Some had gained them through radiation or similar causes, while the rest were Inhumans.
"More or less." Shen Fei moved his right hand, and Ada's broken gun along with the two guns in the air flew toward him.
"Looks like my luck is terrible today." Ada had dealt with Superhumans before, but none of them could compare to the abilities Shen Fei had displayed.
"I think my luck is rather good. Sit." Shen Fei walked over to the sofa and sat down, then gestured for Ada to sit opposite him.
"How do you intend to deal with me?" Ada obediently sat across from Shen Fei.
"Relax, I won't do anything to you. In fact, I've always been short of someone to help me with certain matters. Are you interested?"
"You want to hire me?"
"That's right." Shen Fei smiled.
"At this point, it seems I can't refuse." Ada looked as if she had resigned herself to it.
"Of course you can. As long as you promise to keep my abilities secret, you may leave whenever you want." Shen Fei pointed toward the door, his expression calm.
"You trust me?" Ada asked.
"Of course." Shen Fei nodded with a smile.
"Then I accept." Ada stood and walked toward the door, watching Shen Fei's reaction as she went. Until she stepped outside, Shen Fei showed no reaction whatsoever.
"Looks like Wesker has his eye on me. That's only natural. How could he research viruses without bioweapon experts? Quite a few experts in this field have disappeared over the years." It was easy enough to guess where those experts had gone.
"I hope Wesker comes looking for me himself later. Red Queen..." The only things from Umbrella Corporation that Shen Fei wanted now were the Stairway of the Sun and the Red Queen. As long as he found Wesker, he should be able to obtain both.
"I wonder who those four were?" Looking at the four corpses on the floor, Shen Fei immediately opened a small Mirror Dimension and enclosed all four bodies within it. Destroying the evidence was simple and convenient.
"What happened over there? Is there a fire?" After cleaning away the bloodstains as well, Shen Fei looked through the window and saw what seemed to be a raging fire in the distant city, leaving him greatly surprised.
However, the alarm that sounded immediately afterward made Shen Fei understand what had happened. It was a bioweapon virus alarm, a new type of warning established only after the Raccoon City Incident.
Under normal circumstances, this alarm would never sound. Now that it had, it meant the entire city was unsafe.
"Is the Raccoon City Incident happening again? What is S.H.I.E.L.D. doing?" Just as Shen Fei was blaming S.H.I.E.L.D., Jill arrived with members of the Strike Team to escort the bioweapon experts staying here away.
From Jill, Shen Fei learned that the situation had already spiraled beyond control. The virus, Hunters, and panicked crowds had turned the city into complete chaos.
"To get so many Hunters into this place, it seems Hydra couldn't resist making a move. The FBC is S.H.I.E.L.D.'s territory, yet someone still succeeded under these circumstances. Only Hydra, hidden within S.H.I.E.L.D., could have done it."
When it came to the Marvel Universe, if he could not find the source of a problem, he would never be wrong to look for Hydra.
