"What was going on? Why were you here?" Just as Hermione had calmed down, Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Snape, and the others arrived. Upon seeing the fallen troll and the three children nearby, they immediately questioned them.
"It was my fault." Just as Harry and Ron did not know what to do, Hermione immediately stepped forward and explained what had happened.
"She was right. I can testify to that." Shen Fei added a few details from the side.
"Five points from Gryffindor." Professor McGonagall immediately punished Hermione for her actions. Hogwarts had very strict school rules, though the Golden Trio seemed never to have followed them.
"For your bravery, Gryffindor is awarded ten points." Having just deducted five points from Hermione, Professor McGonagall then awarded Harry and Ron five points each.
Although they had disobeyed their previous orders, they had done so to save Hermione. That was perfectly in line with Gryffindor's values: bravery, integrity, and daring to take risks.
Although Hogwarts' point system seemed rather arbitrary, points were not awarded casually. There had to be a reason, since those points were tied to the House Cup at the end of the term.
With the Golden Trio's talent for causing trouble, if they had not been in Gryffindor—and if Dumbledore had not kept giving them points—they would have been isolated long ago had they been in Slytherin.
"How did they get in? We must investigate this thoroughly." After Professor McGonagall sent Harry and the other two back, Snape looked at Dumbledore and spoke.
"No matter what, the students are safe, and that is what matters most. Everyone is tired today. Go back and rest. I will handle the subsequent investigation."
After Dumbledore finished speaking, Professor McGonagall immediately used the Levitation Charm to take away the petrified troll. Snape and the others
