Background / History

Past Life and Reincarnation

Tang San grew up in the Bashu Tang Sect, where he secretly learned its supreme arts, hidden-weapon methods, and the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record. After suffering the sect's punishment of flesh carving and bone scraping, he jumped from Ghost's Worry and reincarnated in Douluo Continent. 366

Ye Qiu later subjected him to Tsukuyomi and extracted memories from both of Tang San's lives. During Tang San's rescue, Ye Qiu used Takehaya-Susanoo-no-Mikoto to scramble and erase most of his past-life memories. 366 372 After awakening, Tang San could remember only fragments of his previous life and the names of several former Tang Sect weapons. 397

Early Academy Years

At Nuoding Academy, Tang San was a plainly dressed, somewhat malnourished boy who nevertheless carried himself with confidence and composure. He introduced himself as a Blue Silver Grass user with Innate Full Soul Power. 6

He became Yu Xiaogang's disciple and was recognized as a Twin Martial Soul possessor. His second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer, remained hidden while he initially cultivated Blue Silver Grass. 8 190

His third Spirit Ring became a lasting humiliation: a white, ten-year Skunk Spirit Beast ring that altered the appearance and scent of his Blue Silver Grass. The setback intensified his fixation on becoming strong enough to defeat Ye Qiu. 190 192

Appearance

Tang San was initially ordinary-looking, skinny, and somewhat malnourished, though his clothes were always neat. Following Xie Xue Douluo's training and Blood God-related transformations, his appearance became increasingly unnatural and blood-infused. 6 955

  • Long blood-red hair, described as falling over his shoulders like a bloody waterfall. 955
  • More handsome features than in his youth, but with a sickly pallor. 955
  • Blood-red light and flame-like radiance in his eyes. 955
  • A pervasive bloody stench surrounding both his body and Blood Silver Grass. 605 955
  • Often manifests blood-red tentacles or vines when releasing his evolved Blue Silver Grass. 742 800

Personality

Tang San began as composed, confident, and outwardly courteous, but he consistently possessed strong pride in his talent and techniques. His early defeat by Ye Qiu humiliated him deeply, turning his desire to surpass Ye Qiu into an obsession. 171 192

He is exceptionally resilient under pain. Even after losing an arm and enduring illusionary torture, he continued attempting to fight; later, he accepted Xie Xue Douluo's brutal body-breaking training as the price of rapid strength. 366 462

His growing power made him increasingly arrogant and dismissive of others, including Yu Xiaogang. He often viewed opponents as beneath him, challenged stronger enemies under dangerous conditions, and pursued the Clear Sky Sect's leadership as part of his plans for revenge. 463 797 804

Story Role / Major Arcs

Rivalry with Ye Qiu

Tang San's rivalry with Ye Qiu escalated after Ye Qiu defeated him despite Tang San's Spirit Abilities, poisons, and hidden weapons. Tang San vowed revenge while lying injured and later sought Yu Xiaogang's help in identifying Ye Qiu's weaknesses. 171 193

He later attacked Ye Qiu with poison-coated Godly Zhuge Crossbows, deliberately targeting around Zhu Zhuqing in an attempt to force Ye Qiu into danger. 189

Death, Rescue, and Memory Loss

During an ambush connected to the Strength Clan, Tang San confronted Ye Qiu and was severely mutilated. Ye Qiu used Tsukuyomi to torture him and examined the memories of his former Tang Sect life. 365 366

Xie Xue Douluo's intervention saved Tang San, but Ye Qiu's final mental attack left most of Tang San's past-life memories shattered. Tang San awoke furious and disoriented, unable to recover the knowledge he had once prized most. 372 397

Blood God Training and the Spirit Master Competition

Xie Xue Douluo rebuilt Tang San through repeated violent training, rapidly increasing his cultivation and granting him abnormal recovery. Tang San entered the Spirit Master Competition with five black rings on his Clear Sky Hammer and later demonstrated simultaneous use of both Martial Souls. 462 720 736

His confrontation with Ye Qiu revealed Blood Silver Grass, battle-driven advancement to level 59, and the incomplete Blood God True Body. Ye Qiu nevertheless dismantled Tang San's confidence and retained the upper hand. 738 742 744

Clear Sky Sect Ancestor Recognition

Tang San returned to the Clear Sky Sect seeking Ancestor Recognition, intending not merely to atone for Tang Hao's legacy but to become the sect's future master. 793

He defeated Tang Hu with Blood Silver Grass and the Blood Silver Domain, then challenged the Seventh Elder on a dangerous chain bridge while using both Martial Souls. His strength and survivability forced the elders to reconsider their hostility. 798 800 803

The sect set three conditions for his succession: reach Soul Douluo within five years, bring back the head of a Spirit Hall Title Douluo, and gain red Hundred Thousand Year Spirit Rings as his seventh and eighth rings. Tang San accepted them to pursue revenge and power. 804
