Wang Lei heard that he had been exposed because he went downstairs, and immediately scolded Mengmeng a few more times in his heart.
Wang Lei roughly understood what had happened. To Angel Yan, an ordinary human should have been transparent at a glance. Yet Wang Lei was clearly impossible to read at a glance. Then she tried to access his Dark Dimension Data—well, she could read absolutely nothing from him. Did she even need to guess what came next? This was the person she had been looking for.
At this moment, Wang Lei could only awkwardly take a sip of Happy Water before slowly asking, "Alright, then did Lady Angel Yan come all the way to my little shop just for a suit of armor whose technological level falls far short of Angel Civilization's?"
Angel Yan shook her head, chin raised as she stared at Wang Lei with interest. "Yes and no. That Exoskeleton is quite cleverly designed, but angels eliminated that kind of thing tens of thousands of years ago. Still, the energy powering it is very interesting. Its intensity is only so-so, but its composition seems to be a form of energy that angels have yet to master. So I came to see who its owner was."
Wang Lei nodded and took out an Energy Battery.
"Actually, giving you one or two Energy Batteries wouldn't be a problem. But..."
Wang Lei stopped halfway through his sentence and looked at Angel Yan with the face of a greedy merchant.
Angel Yan immediately got it, but she deliberately puffed out her chest and said, "Oh, you need money? How much? Angels don't lack that little bit of money."
Wang Lei only shook his head, tossing the Energy Battery back into System Space right in front of her.
Angel Yan's pupils trembled slightly. That had been Micro Wormhole Technology just now, hadn't it? But why had there been no spatial fluctuation whatsoever? Nor had there been any Dark Energy fluctuation. It was practically like magic.
Angel Yan frowned and said, "Little... Wang Lei, could you take the battery out again and let me have another look?"
Wang Lei nodded, thinking that she could look at it as many times as she wanted. He directly retrieved the two Energy Batteries from the system again.
Angel Yan mobilized every bit of computing power available to her, but she still saw nothing. The two Energy Batteries had seemed to appear out of thin air.
Angel Yan had now realized the severity of the situation. She had initially regarded Wang Lei as just a kid, but now it seemed highly likely that he was the representative of an unknown civilization on Earth. Otherwise, he would not possess armor beyond Earth's technology, nor would he have spatial methods that she could not make heads or tails of.
Angel Yan's expression turned solemn. She sat upright and said, "Wang Lei, let's talk price. What do you want for these two batteries?"
Wang Lei understood that Angel Yan was probing him. She wanted to infer who he truly was from his asking price. So what he asked for now was critically important. Whether he would be taken away for interrogation or successfully bluff Angel Yan depended on this move.
So Wang Lei smiled and pushed the two Energy Batteries toward Angel Yan. "These aren't particularly valuable. I only want two of the angels' most basic Dark Dimension Gene Engines. They don't need to contain anything—just the Gene Engines themselves."
Angel Yan wore a strange expression.
"Why do you want something so basic? A Dark Dimension Gene Engine alone is completely meaningless. Without a Super Gene to activate it, it's nothing. The human body can't even absorb it. Besides, judging by that armor of yours, your combat ability should be about on par with an ordinary First Generation Super Soldier. You shouldn't be lacking Gene Engines."
Wang Lei waved a hand mysteriously.
"That will do. I can give you the Energy Batteries first. I only want two of the angels' most basic Dark Dimension Gene Engines. Surely the angels' reputation is good enough that you won't cheat an ordinary Earthling out of what you owe him?"
Angel Yan gave Wang Lei another long look. In the end, she used a micro wormhole to put away the two Energy Batteries.
Wang Lei clapped his hands and said with a smile, "Alright, now that we have a deal, we're trading partners. If you're not in a hurry, don't leave yet. When Mengmeng gets back, I'll show you what I can do. I'm probably no match for you angels in combat, but when it comes to cooking, I'm fairly confident."
Angel Yan thought that sounded great. She had been wondering how to coax more information out of Wang Lei anyway. Her previously solemn expression immediately shifted, like a Sichuan opera face change, back into the lazy and alluring state she had worn at the beginning.
"Sure, I have some time. I'll be looking forward to your cooking. By the way, do you know what enemy your world is facing right now?"
Wang Lei knew this was part of her probing, so he answered frankly, "Of course. Earth has suddenly become the focus of the gods of the universe. Angels, Demons, Blazing Sun, Styx... It could be said that every organization in the universe with Third Generation Gods and Fourth Generation Gods has turned its gaze toward Earth. It's as if Earth suddenly became made of Dark Iron Silver. Yet we're clearly just an ordinary planet on the edge of the universe, with no special resources whatsoever."
Angel Yan nodded after hearing this, now even more certain that Wang Lei was the representative of some super civilization. How could an ordinary Earthling know about matters of the universe, especially matters concerning gods? Even those people at the Super God Academy probably had not yet figured out exactly how many enemies they were facing.
Angel Yan then asked, "Wang Lei, since you know so much, what do you plan to do about the coming invasion?"
Wang Lei gave a cold laugh and said, "I'm not capable enough to concern myself with the affairs of those Third Generation and Fourth Generation Gods. But wine for friends, shotguns for enemies. We'll take things one step at a time. Earth won't fall so easily."
Angel Yan nodded, indicating that it was good as long as he was confident. After that, the two discussed topics such as the distribution of powers throughout the universe.
Wang Lei figured that when he had been obsessed with the second season of Super Soldier Company in his previous life, he had spent some time as a lore researcher. After transmigrating here, he had naturally created a document in the system long ago and recorded everything he could remember.
Thus, the more Angel Yan spoke with Wang Lei, the more alarmed she became. Wang Lei knew a little too much about the universe's secrets. Some matters were things she herself had only heard about or seen in written records, yet Wang Lei could recount them as stories as though he had personally lived through them.
They kept talking until Rui Mengmeng returned with the crabs. Both of them knew that the girl was truly innocent and pure, and she had not yet begun to come into contact with the universe.
After that, Wang Lei went to cook. He planned to turn the two Bread Crabs into Golden Crab. Angel Yan was so generous that she would later say she could give away even Heavenly Blade Seven, the pinnacle of angelic technology. He was not asking for treatment on such a grand scale; if he buttered her up, it would not be too much to ask her for some energy later, right?
While Wang Lei cooked, Angel Yan tried to draw information about him out of Rui Mengmeng outside. Unfortunately, Rui Mengmeng felt nothing but admiration for Wang Lei.
Wang Lei usually taught her a few cooking techniques, so after probing for a long time, Angel Yan only learned that Wang Lei had made his fortune through cooking and what dishes he was especially skilled at. She could not find out anything else.
