The declaration drew the Eye of Heavenly Dao’s attention and prompted Heavenly Lord of Original Beginning to order Guangchengzi and the Sect of Enlightenment disciples to attack the Human Race.

• Di Xin blamed the Sect of Enlightenment and the Heavenly Court for the disasters and ordered officials to aid the people.
• Qin Hong and Nuwa told Di Xin that Hongjun was behind the disasters and explained that establishing the Human Dao could challenge the Heavenly Dao.

As disasters and assassinations weakened morale, Nuwa and Di Xin renewed their resolve, and Duobao and the Interception Sect intervened when Chijingzi and Daoist Heavenly Venerate attacked a city.

• Laozi sent Xuandu to Chaoge to await an opportunity to destroy the Human Race, while Di Xin used education, newspapers, and public projects to unite Great Shang behind the Human Dao.

In Chaoge, Huang Tianhua trapped and interrogated assassins targeting Huang Feihu’s family, then used their confession to capture more conspirators and launch a wave of investigations.

• Duobao failed to catch Chijingzi and Daoist Heavenly Venerate, warned the Interception Sect disciples to stay together, and led them to another patrol area.
• Di Xin summoned Zhenyuanzi to guard Chaoge, while assassinations continued elsewhere in Great Shang.
• Xuandu the Grand Master’s hired assassins broke into Huang Feihu’s home to kill his family but were caught in a prepared formation.

As Hongjun’s suppression weakened the Interception Sect and the Human Race, Haotian prepared a counterattack and the Western Sect intensified its abuses against humans. Saintess Jinling encountered Maitreya and condemned him for abducting, coercing, and slaughtering people in the name of the Western Sect.

• Interception Sect disciples struggled to cultivate and suffered devastating lightning tribulations, so Sect Master Tongtian forbade them from undergoing tribulations.
• Haotian prepared a major assault against the Great Shang army after it withdrew behind Jiebei Pass, while Minghe emerged to seek a share of the spoils.

Maitreya trapped Jinling and other Interception Sect disciples in a formation, tortured Jinling, and used her as bait to lure in reinforcements. Duobao arrived and resolved to enter the formation to rescue her, leaving the Interception Sect disciples facing Maitreya’s deadly trap.

• Duobao charged into Maitreya’s formation, where his treasures and the Twelve-grade Golden Lotus of Merit helped him withstand Maitreya’s attacks.

Jieyin attacked Duobao there, until a mysterious black spear struck and a voice challenged the Saint for harming someone from the Interception Sect.

• Zhao Gongming charged into Maitreya's formation with the twenty-four Sea-Calming Divine Beads and helped Duobao and Saintess Jinling hold out.
• Yun Xiao and Qin Wan explained that the formation had limits, and Saintess Wudang led the Interception Sect disciples in a coordinated assault that forced Maitreya and the Western Sect disciples to flee.
• Duobao and the other Interception Sect disciples freed themselves and chased Maitreya to the Great Thunder Sound Temple, where they surrounded the entrance and demanded he come out.
