Preparing Alchemy

After Punk waved his hand and spent seventy gold coins, a dilapidated, dark little house of about two hundred square meters officially belonged to Punk. A house like this, which no one would want even if it were given away for free, actually sold for seventy gold coins. The owner must be laughing in his sleep!

Punk glanced disdainfully at the middle-aged man holding the gold coins, afraid Punk would go back on his word and run away. He shook his head at these ignorant commoners and then "examined" his "new home." He never expected that the dream of owning a house, which was unattainable on Earth, would be realized so easily now.

"But I don't feel any sense of belonging or security. Is it because I've been homeless since I transmigrated, so I'm used to it?"

Punk couldn't help but mock himself.

After calmly casting a few detection spells on the house and confirming there were no issues, Punk stepped onto the creaking, old steps at the doorway.

Upon entering the small house, Punk was first greeted by a centimeter-thick layer of dust piled on the floor and spiders lurking in every corner. The dust and smoke swirled everywhere as the door opened, making the entire living room "hazy."

"I paid so much money, and they didn't even offer any housekeeping services. No wonder your house didn't sell."

Punk complained that the seller's poor service attitude couldn't even compare to their Earth counterparts. As he grumbled, he began to use a Wind Breath Spell, minimizing its power, to clear the dust and cobwebs.

As a strong mini-hurricane swept through every corner of the dilapidated house, the rotting wooden structure groaned loudly under the force of the wind, making one worry that the ramshackle house might shatter and collapse at any moment.

Punk blew all the dust stirred up by the strong wind out through the door, creating a small dust storm outside. The leaves of a small tree by the door were covered in a layer of dark gray dust.

Looking at the much cleaner, albeit still dilapidated, house, Punk felt quite satisfied. With no furniture, the space appeared exceptionally bright and airy, perfect for placing various alchemy bottles and jars. Moreover, Punk didn't plan to buy any furniture. As a Mage who used Meditation Methods instead of sleep, he didn't need a bed. As a "chef" who couldn't even fry an egg, he didn't need a kitchen; he could just buy food from the street.

After setting up a few simple Defensive Magic spells, Punk walked into a room towards the back, away from the sun. He closed the door, plunging the entire room into darkness. Apart from a few holes in the ceiling gnawed by insects, there was almost no other light.

In the small room, which now had a distinct haunted house atmosphere, Punk cast a Journeyman Level Evocation spell – Dancing Light Spell. A small light orb, as bright as an incandescent bulb, appeared in Punk's hand and floated to the ceiling. The soft light emitted by the orb illuminated the entire room in meticulous detail. This spell, as a Journeyman Level Utility Spell, could remain bright for two full days, making it a superior lighting "facility" compared to electric lights.

Subsequently, Punk used a spell to create a large table. These simple Utility Spells could be adjusted and modified to some extent by Punk, who was already a Journeyman Mage. For instance, this spell, which originally could only create a round table, could now create an extra-large rectangular workbench like the one before him after Punk analyzed and adjusted the spell's form and structure model through the System. Although it was only a minor modification to the spell's secondary structure, it represented Punk's deeper understanding of magic.

With the workbench prepared, Punk carefully took out some Alchemy Tools from his pocket, which were inscribed with faint magical patterns. These tools were not the easily damaged "cheap goods" (those costing ten gold coins were practically disposable, and Punk hadn't even glanced at them since he got money). These tools were "limited edition custom items" worth two hundred gold coins (according to an old Mage, though he wasn't sure if it was reliable). Not only were these tools made from superior materials, but they also had some magical inscriptions added to enhance their quality.

Punk picked up a shallow red transparent beaker, etched with pale yellow flame-shaped inscriptions. The inscriptions, like splashing flames, emitted a warm temperature on the beaker's surface. This beaker was made of Crimson Ember Crystal, making it not only sturdy but also capable of slowing down energy dissipation. The inscriptions on it effectively retained heat, making it an ideal "helper" for novice alchemists. Although this set of tools immediately depleted Punk's newly acquired gold coins, it was absolutely worth the price!

Punk neatly arranged the Alchemy Tools on the workbench and then took out the thin "Night Vision Potion Recipe Explained" to study. The bag containing the alchemy ingredients was placed by his feet, allowing Punk to easily retrieve and compare them.

Time passed slowly. As Punk delved deeper into the recipe, he gained a very detailed understanding of the Night Vision Potion. This potion achieved its effect through biomimicry. The refined potion would become a semi-energized transparent liquid. Through alchemical transformation, a fixed magical program would be added to the potion, setting a fixed transformation form. After entering the human body, the potion would rapidly gather in the eyes along the bloodstream in an energy state. Then, the magical "program" integrated with the potion would activate, forming a highly photosensitive energy film behind the retina. In bright light conditions, the semi-materialized part of the potion would take effect, allowing light to form images normally on the retina. In dim light conditions, when the retina could no longer form images, the semi-energized part of the potion would take effect, allowing faint light to form images on the highly photosensitive energy film.

The principle was miraculous, yet simple. However, the process of achieving it... was likely complex and difficult...

Punk closed the book, which the System had recorded verbatim, and rubbed the rough, creased cover, falling into thought.

The key to making this potion lay in two points: first, refining a pile of strange ingredients into a potion base with special photosensitive properties.

The second point was to program the potion to automatically recognize the visual organs in the human body and form an energy film in the correct position.

The first point was particularly complex and difficult. The second point could be followed step-by-step, like drawing a gourd after a senior. With enough practice, one could learn it. Only the aspect of separating material energies, merging multiple structures, and altering potion properties was extremely challenging. After all, even if different materials were of the same type, their properties could never be exactly the same. Therefore, alchemy not only required precise control but also the ability to adjust according to the changes in materials at any time. Many Mages were driven mad by these numerous, chaotic, and messy operations.

Punk put down the recipe book and rubbed his temples with his index finger. Even with the System's analysis and his Soul's perception, he found this alchemy potion quite troublesome. No wonder there were so few alchemists, and no wonder the little puppet looked at him with a hint of amusement when he bought the potion recipe. This darn thing was truly not easy at all!
