Background / History

Li Zhanting came from a collateral branch of Tianhai City’s Li family. With family resources, he reached the Qi Force realm—the first stage of Entering Force—but regarded this breakthrough as sufficient and used his connections to become an assistant instructor at East City Martial School. He bypassed four years of foundational martial-arts instruction and entered the fifth-year curriculum directly. 11

As an instructor, Li cultivated ties with wealthy students while treating commoner students with contempt. He was openly jealous when he learned that Lu Jue, a student he had previously urged to abandon martial arts, had perfected Basic Fist Arts. 11

Before the Fist Arts assessment, Li accepted or solicited bribes from students seeking higher scores. He also pressured Yao Li, implying that her assessment result could improve if she became “sensible,” then attempted to physically overstep his position until Su Li interrupted. 21 22

Personality

Li Zhanting is status-conscious and resentful of those whose talent or background challenges his own position. He flatters students from powerful families, envies their standing, and regards commoner students as beneath him. 11 22

His confidence is brittle. When Lu Jue defeated Zhang Tie and publicly demanded the promised prize, Li responded with violence rather than accepting humiliation. During their later duel, the loss of face drove him to use a prohibited Crimson Blood Pill and fight with increasingly reckless, lethal intent. 12 13 25 26

Conflict with Lu Jue

Li questioned Lu Jue’s sudden mastery of Basic Fist Arts and ridiculed his choice to study Sound Location. He arranged a paid sparring match against Zhang Tie, expecting Lu to be defeated; Lu won instead and demanded the prize money. 11 12

Humiliated, Li struck Lu with a Force-infused punch. Wang Gang’s intervention forced Li to settle privately, paying Lu 50,000 yuan rather than immediately facing a formal report. 13

Li later attempted to manipulate the Fist Arts assessment for profit and resisted Lu’s public challenge. In the resulting duel, Lu endured Li’s attacks, broke his arm with a counterpunch, and eventually defeated him despite Li’s use of the Crimson Blood Pill. 22 27

Disciplinary Action

Following Lu’s victory, Su Li publicly announced the results of the investigation: Li had induced and accepted student bribes and privately used prohibited drugs. His assistant instructor position was temporarily revoked, and his case was transferred to the Disciplinary Committee. 28
