Hawkes was the only biologist and genetic engineer in Messiah.
He was good at his work. He was not among the world's best, but he was still first-rate.
Even so, that only went so far. Curing cancer was already beyond him.
Let alone taming cancer cells, as Huang Ji had done.
"This is unbelievable. Cancer cells can be controlled?" Hawkes pressed as they left the operating room.
Huang Ji nodded. "The facts speak for themselves. If it exists, there's a reason for it."
"Cancer cells can produce all sorts of unusual proteins themselves. That means neurotransmitters can control them."
"The key to the entire operation is my nervous system."
As he spoke, his hair rose on its own, forming what looked like two horns atop his head.
Hawkes knew about this, of course. It was an ability Huang Ji had gained through evolution. Hawkes had even studied it: Huang Ji's nervous system was dozens of times more developed than an ordinary person's.
Huang Ji asked, "I left plenty of samples in the lab. You can study them at your leisure. Do you remember what I just did?"
"Of course," Hawkes said earnestly. "I didn't dare blink once!"
"Good. Rest for a day, then help me perform the same modification tomorrow," Huang Ji said.
Hawkes froze. "Wait. I didn't understand what you did after the sutures."
Huang Ji shook his head. "You won't need to do that part. I used bioelectricity to control the cancer cells' growth pattern."
"You only need to help me with the first two steps. I can handle the rest myself."
Hawkes asked several more questions, and Huang Ji patiently explained each one.
The procedure for subduing cancer cells was complicated, but Hawkes had a solid foundation. With Huang Ji's clear explanations, he soon grasped it in
