The Black Wand was in Feis's hand. When he tried to use it, his fingers naturally pressed the correct pattern.
But it was Huang Ji, not Feis, who spoke the command at the same time.
Huang Ji's control over his body was exquisite. He could even grow organs inside someone else's body, let alone manipulate his own vocal cords.
And by comparing the information, he could reproduce someone else's voice exactly.
Feis was holding the Black Wand, so the command had to be spoken in his voice. The wand's detection was extraordinarily precise: it assessed Feis's vocal organs in real time to determine what voice to recognize.
That meant a recording was useless. A person's voice changed from day to day; yesterday's voice was not quite today's. The difference was simply too small for ordinary instruments to detect.
Ultimately, though, it was still a recognition system. Match the wavelength and waveform of the sound Feis was about to make, with sufficient precision and timing, and it could be fooled.
After all, the thing was a "toy." Across the stars, virtually everyone had ways to disable the Black Wand or even take control of it.
But Huang Ji was the first to do it with nothing but his mouth.
Feis never could have imagined that someone could predict the precise frequency and waveform of the sound he would make a second later, then imitate his command without the slightest error.
The Black Wand was inside the Energy Shield, so the shield did not react.
Feis had, in effect, shot himself.
Unfortunately, the shot had not killed him outright. This was the best opening Huang Ji could foresee; a fraction of a second earlier or later, and Feis would have suffered no more than a minor injury.
Bang!
