Liu Tengkong's vision went pure white, then pure black.
He had gone blind in an instant, yet to his astonishment, he was still alive.
Not only had his body not evaporated, he felt warm, as though he were basking in the afternoon sun.
"Why... am I not dead?"
The other crew members were still there too. With their arms locked tightly together, they could still feel one another.
Within seconds, their sight returned. They saw with their own eyes the boundless inferno on the sun's surface.
"Ah!"
At that moment, all they felt was bewilderment and shock beyond words.
The sun was right beneath their feet. They could no longer tell how vast it was; the entire world seemed to be churning plasma.
Strangest of all, though they were surrounded by an endless sea of fire, the photosphere lay directly below them.
Most of the sun's light came from there. This was nothing like looking at the sun from Earth. It was endless radiance in the most literal sense.
In theory, they should not have been able to see anything. Even if they survived, their vision should have been nothing but white.
Yet now they could see vortices in the convecting plasma, rising and rolling flames, and waves of light surging outward.
Their eyes should never have been able to make out such details. "Is that... an energy shield?"
Some strange force field surrounded them. Dozens of meters away, they could see translucent hexagonal membranes. Joined together, the hexagons enclosed all six of them in a vast energy shield.
The intense light became soft, visible light as it passed through the membrane. Ultraviolet light, X-Rays—all of it was filtered out.
That was why they could see the colors and details of the sun so clearly.
Liu Tengkong was utterly bewildered,
