Play... play a tune?
Lu Yang was dumbfounded.
Trapped in terror and despair, even if he cracked his skull open, he never would have imagined being given such a request.
What did this mean?
Was this meant to humiliate him?
Or did Su Yi truly want to hear his attainments in the Dao of music?
Lu Yang's thoughts were in a tangled mess.
"Play, now!"
Candle Nether Roc barked.
Lu Yang shuddered all over. Throwing caution to the wind, he sat cross-legged on the ground, laid the ancient zither across his knees, and pressed his trembling fingers to its strings.
Closing his eyes, he tried his best to calm himself, casting aside all distracting thoughts as he began to play.
Before long, the clear twang of the ancient zither rang out. It carried bewilderment and confusion, as though weeping and pleading, along with traces of sorrow and despair.
Candle Nether Roc curled its lip. It did not sound nearly as good as a female roc's cry.
Suddenly, one of the strings snapped with a harsh, grating crack.
At the same moment, Su Yi said, "Thank you."
Lu Yang was at a loss, unable to understand what Su Yi was really thinking.
Su Yi patiently explained, "Tonight, thank you for having the leisure and elegance to play the zither here. It gave me enough time to arrive."
Lu Yang finally understood. His chest tightened as though someone had stabbed a knife straight into his heart.
That was right!
If he had not delayed tonight and had simply returned directly to the sect, how could such a disaster have happened?
The more Lu Yang thought about it, the more stifled he felt. His entire being was in ruins.
Candle Nether Roc snickered. Killing a man and still stabbing him in the heart!
