Background / History

Lu Ze comes from a poor mountain village in Great Xia’s Northwest Province. He once walked to school and attributes his opportunity to attend university and study overseas to the support of his neighbors and hometown. His experience drives his desire to help other children from impoverished regions. 50 98

After transmigrating and acquiring a technology-replication system, Lu Ze studied for a Master’s degree at Duke University on a Great Xia government scholarship. At an equipment exhibition, he copied the full F-22 fighter design by touching the aircraft for five seconds, then anonymously sent the blueprints to the Great Xia Academy of Sciences out of patriotism and a wish to damage Eagle Country’s interests. 1

Great Xia later assigns him the top-secret codename Chaoyang. While working in Eagle Country, Lu Ze carefully limits what others see of his abilities, believing that appearing mediocre gives him safer access to advanced technology and a better chance of eventually returning home. 9 31

To protect his identity, Lu Ze turns the Great Wall Watchers Organization into an elaborate cover story. Although Great Xia perceives a large, structured organization, Lu Ze is effectively its entire core, using disguises, puppets, and recruited outsiders to create the appearance of many separate operatives. 63 65 88

Personality

Lu Ze is intensely patriotic and pragmatic. He treats advanced technology as a means to strengthen Great Xia and weaken Eagle Country, but his goals extend beyond military competition: he commits major funds to education in his home region because he sees rural students as reflections of his younger self. 1 27 50
