Since these were merely titular fiefs, there was no need to argue over the choice, area, or borders of their territories. The results were settled quickly, then reported to the Goddess of Magic for Her approval.
The Empire had no emperor, so only the Goddess of Magic could confer ducal titles.
The process was merely symbolic.
The divine statue in the High Palace trembled slightly, and Vejestri's voice rang out in everyone's mind. She announced that Master Mayov would be conferred the title of "Duke of White Raven," while Osiria would be conferred the title of "Duke of Azure Rainbow." She also personally congratulated the two Archmages.
It was the first time either of them had come into contact with a deity. They rose excitedly to express their thanks.
The Soul Saint Wizards also offered their congratulations once again.
Rayne silently grumbled. The titles conferred by the Goddess of Magic were far too arbitrary, still following the convention of naming them after a color plus some object. "Duke of Azure Rainbow" was acceptable and suited Osiria's characteristics fairly well, but "Duke of White Raven" was simply too lacking in grandeur.
