Rayne finished speaking and stepped down.
A low murmur arose in the assembly hall, and the expressions of the more than three hundred councilors were quite something to behold.
Many of them had participated in multiple consul elections, and some had even taken part in dozens. Yet this was the first time they had ever seen a speech as short as Rayne's.
In the past, most candidates would make full use of the fifteen minutes to explain their governing philosophies and policies, promise what goals they would achieve during their terms, make various commitments to the councilors and the people of the Empire, and throw in some attacks and smears against their competitors.
Rayne had mentioned none of that.
His words had sounded nothing like a campaign speech. Instead, they were more like a declaration of victory, filled with an unquestionable air of authoritarianism and an arrogance that made a few people uncomfortable.
However, even more councilors were won over by his domineering presence.
In a world ruled by extraordinary power, people could not help but worship the strong, while the strong themselves likewise worshiped those who were even stronger.
No matter how brilliant the speech, it seemed pale and powerless before Rayne's strength and achievements.
That was why the other candidates gave up their speeches.
That was why Rayne dared to act so arrogantly.
On the podium, the three Soul Saint Wizards regarded Rayne's words and actions with new respect. Even his mortal enemy, Kailstone, Duke Redstone, was moved. He carefully examined Rayne, a trace of approval showing in his eyes. Of course, what he felt more strongly was wariness toward Rayne, his enemy.
Ansiwodoss was the calmest of them all. He understood his student well, and after learning of Rayne's ambitions, nothing Rayne did would surprise him anymore.
