Rayne's plan to send someone into the Abyss to scout ahead actually meant sending Reslin himself. A few days ago, Reslin had already entered the Abyss.

Traveling from the Material Plane to the Abyss was no easy task. First, the distance was immense. Second, the Abyss was far too vast. It was a colossal world composed of countless planes, making it extremely difficult to pinpoint a location.

When people spoke of the Abyss's nth layer, they generally meant distance.

The higher the layer, the farther it was from the Material Plane. The first layer of the Abyss, the Myriad Abyss Plain, was the closest to the Material Plane. Adjacent layers were also relatively close to one another, but that did not necessarily mean connecting passages existed between them. It was like the separation between planes. Most Abyssal layers were closed off and extremely difficult to enter. One needed powerful teleportation abilities or a unique method to get inside.

To creatures other than demons, the Abyss was the most dangerous place in the world.

Even so, many people entered the Abyss for various purposes and returned safely, bringing back information about it. This included the spacetime coordinates and planar passages leading to certain Abyssal layers.

The Wizerland Grand Library preserved over a hundred spacetime coordinates, scattered across different Abyssal layers.

There were also several natural planar passages that could be used with relative safety.

However, none of those coordinates or passages led to the 404th Layer of Sighing Wilderness, and there was pitifully little information about that layer.

Thus, Reslin chose a nearby plane as a stepping stone.

The Wailing Wilderness was the 404th layer. The three best-known planes nearest to it were the 399th layer, "Worm Kingdom," the 422nd layer, "Yenoghu's Domain," and the 435th layer, "Misty Mountains."
