1045, Second Battle of the Modell Sector (I)
Time: 21 BBY, June 27.
Location: Outer Rim of the galaxy, Western Reaches, Modell Region, Zuma Sector, Kuna Cluster, outer orbit of Kuna's Tooth Planet.
Twenty Hunter Class Battlecruisers were moving through the planet's outer orbit, each carrying out its own duties. They began clearing the Gauss automatic defense platforms positioned around the planet while deploying a blockade line along the planet's equator.
The main gun batteries beneath the Hunter Class bridges fired continuously, blue Turbolaser beams rippling across the shields of the Gauss weapon platforms. Then the shields shattered, and after a series of violent explosions, the weapon platforms broke apart into countless fragments.
The officers and sailors of the Galactic Republic Navy were now extremely familiar with these Gauss weapon platforms, which the Fourth Civilization used extensively. These platforms were simply disgusting things—small and immobile, equipped with two 500mm heavy electromagnetic cannons, two eight-cell missile launchers, and two close-defense laser cannons mounted above and below.
Their firepower was negligible against large warships on the scale of Hunter Class Battlecruisers, but when there were enough of them, they became extremely troublesome.
Especially after the Fourth Civilization upgraded its target downlink system and networked the fire-control systems of all Gauss weapon platforms around a planet, making them even more dangerous. Sometimes, the combat computers of these platforms would even use their two main guns to lock onto fighters directly!
And sure enough, under the coordinated control of those advanced central control mainframes built on the planet, Republic fighter pilots really could get hit if they were careless. Once struck by one of those 1.8-ton shells accelerating at more than 1,000 Gs, a fighter would come apart on the spot, leaving not even a single piece to recover.
What was more, these weapon
