Within the black fog shrouding Eri-Xiang City, a squad of Caladanian soldiers silently entered the battlefield. They wore black cloaks and beast-bone masks painted black, with one or two Scimitars hanging at their waists and M-29 "Mantis" sniper rifles in their hands.
After joining the Fourth Civilization Army, the Caladanians naturally gained access to far better equipment than before. Yet their demand for equipment remained minimal, as though it had become a tradition. Ever since the war with the Yamrii, they had grown accustomed to fighting with extremely limited weapons and supplies.
They would rather carry more energy bars to survive a few extra days in the wilderness than bring another gun or additional magazines. To them, even without bullets, even if their rifles jammed, as long as the Scimitars at their waists remained, they were still the most terrifying killers!
Amid this darkness, the Caladanians still moved with incredible speed. Obstacles and ruins could not impede their steps. They kept more than ten meters apart, yet remained perfectly coordinated, communicating at most through gestures and almost never making a sound.
Under cover of darkness, they pushed deep into the city. Fighting was breaking out everywhere now, with gunfire and explosions rising and falling in succession. Yet in this darkness, it remained difficult to make out what lay ahead.
General Hakimi, the Caladanian at the head of the group, took out a device and looked it over. It was exceedingly crude, consisting of a small digital screen displaying only simple flat images and text. At that moment, a building at the eleven o'clock position ahead was marked on the screen.
According to the marker, Eri-Xiang City's defending forces were stationed inside that building, preparing to advance along the western road and join up with defenders stationed in an underground warehouse
