Republic Intelligence Department Minister Armand Isard promptly realized that Mayor Daman might be compromised, and Galactic Republic intelligence agents conducted a thorough investigation into him.
Fortunately, his reaction had been quick. After Mayor Daman went to the restroom, intelligence agents immediately and discreetly obtained a sample of his feces. Subsequent reverse analysis revealed traces of partially undigested high-fiber tuber plants.
This was a common food often eaten by ordinary residents of Rendili Planet. It was relatively cheap and quite filling.
But according to Mayor Daman's itinerary over the past few days, while his meals had not exactly been extravagant delicacies, they had at least all been very refined. This food had not appeared in any of them!
The intelligence agents obtained Daman's previous menus from the restaurants he had visited and discovered that they simply did not match!
The day before, Daman had eaten the expensive Horok long-snout fish, a delicious but relatively difficult-to-digest fish.
Yet no trace whatsoever of Horok long-snout fish could be detected in the fecal sample from this Daman! In other words, unless Daman had immediately vomited up everything he ate after eating the fish, such a result should have been impossible!
However, when this finding was combined with their earlier DNA investigation of Mayor Daman, which had concluded that the DNA was indeed his own, it led to a shocking conclusion—the Mayor Daman from several days ago and the one from these past few days were very likely not the same person at all!
Moreover, over the following days, the investigation into several other highly suspicious targets also made some progress—during the days before these targets changed their attitudes, security personnel, secretaries, or assistants around them had disappeared to varying degrees!
The situation was beginning to become clear...
People around them had vanished, which meant
