By now, the Night Sisters were ruled by a powerful Matriarch—Mother Talzin. She was both the mother of the tribe, having borne many daughters, and its most powerful witch, wielding unfathomable magic.
She reunited the Night Sisters, who had fallen into division after Gethzerion's death, and strengthened her rule. The once loosely organized Night Sisters were now bound by stricter laws. Her methods of rule were harsh, almost cruel, turning the Night Sisters into cold-blooded killing tools.
Mother Talzin called the captive male Zabraks Night Brothers and strictly ordered that the Night Sisters could only breed with Night Brothers. Other than that, however, Night Sisters were absolutely forbidden from having any contact with Night Brothers on their own, not even exchanging a single word.
Even when they mated, they were heavily restricted and did not know who the other was. If a daughter was born, she would join the Night Sisters. If it was a boy, he would be thrown back among the Night Brothers.
The Night Brothers, however, lived under an entirely different set of rules.
The Night Brothers had to undergo constant training to ensure that their bodies grew stronger. A strong body not only met the demands of heavier physical labor, but also kept them in the best condition for breeding. These Night Brothers constantly competed and fought one another for the chance to mate with a Night Sister—because doing so improved their lives, sparing them from meaningless manual labor and earning them better food.
The fights between Night Brothers were savage and bloody. Since the Night Sisters taught them no combat techniques, they could only fight with instinct and strength, and such battles were often fights to the death.
