As the planet rotated, Tyran Heavy Industries' Steel City once again faced the Republic fleet. This time, all ten massive orbital defense cannons installed around the city opened fire, launching a fierce counterattack against the Republic fleet.
These enormous orbital defense cannons were far more powerful than the XX-9 twin heavy Turbolasers equipped on Republic warships, but their sole drawback was their lack of flexibility. As the planet rotated, they would soon move out of their firing window again, leaving the Republic fleet free to continue bombarding the planet.
Yet at the command center on Dexen Satellite, the military commanders led by General Kalani continued working in an orderly fashion.
Compared to the ground fighting and regime change on Onderon, they were more concerned with whether the base's foundations remained stable.
"Onderon really fell within a single day," Adjutant Liu Zhichao said to General Kalani. "If that was also part of your plan, then we should be facing an even stronger Republic attack next."
"I did not know how long it would take them to capture Onderon. I merely needed contingency plans for every possible scenario," General Kalani replied in his flat tone. "However, you are correct. We are about to face a stronger Republic attack, because the newly appointed Governor of the Fourth Army, Governor Tarkin, is coming to claim his greatest prize."
He activated a nearby screen. It was broadcasting Wilhuff Tarkin's victory with great fanfare, along with the news that Chancellor Palpatine had personally appointed him Governor of the Fourth Army.
"When someone is about to achieve their goal, their rationality is at its most fragile," Liu Zhichao repeated General Kalani's earlier words. "I think I understand what you are planning. But did you really reach this conclusion through
