The clone troopers told them that Coruscant was under martial law. Someone had attempted to assassinate the Chancellor but failed, and the assassin had yet to be captured.
Every sign indicated that this truly was a citywide lockdown of Coruscant, not something specifically targeting the Jedi Order.
But that was precisely where the problem lay. If something like this had happened in the past, the Galactic Republic would almost certainly have sought the Jedi Knights' help, using their precognitive abilities to locate the target. But now, no one had come to the Jedi Order. They had not even received a single communication.
It made no sense... If Master Yoda had gone to assassinate Darth Sidious, then the other side would undoubtedly take its anger out on the Jedi Order. Yet strangely, there had been no action whatsoever directed against the Jedi Order.
But if nothing had happened, then why had the Republic suffered an incident without notifying the Jedi Order? It was obvious that they were still guarding against them in secret.
Not only that, all their attempts to contact Jedi Knights fighting elsewhere had been intercepted.
The situation was beginning to feel deeply strange, yet the Jedi Order could no longer obtain any further information. They could only continue making preparations: hiding the small number of younglings who had not managed to leave, sealing the Archives, and protecting the noncombatants.
