"How could the Jedi Order do something like this? Assassinate the Chancellor?" Master Lei-Gul frowned deeply. The whole matter felt utterly absurd to him.
Yet when he looked at Master Windu's expression, he was surprised to find him completely serious. He clearly was not joking.
"Things may have changed after we left Coruscant," Master Windu said. "There was intelligence that, until now, only members of the Council knew about."
He turned to Master Lei-Gul, the electronic prosthetic in his left eye flashing with an ominous red light. "The Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, Sheev Palpatine, is the Sith Lord Darth Sidious."
"What?! That's impossible!! Why would a Sith Lord become the Chancellor of our Republic?!" Master Lei-Gul was aghast. "And if something this important happened, we should gather all our strength and go arrest him immediately!!"
"If it were that simple, it would be ideal... a straightforward contest of strength, a battle between two sides, with the victor taking all." Master Windu said coldly, "Indeed, when I first learned this intelligence, I had the urge to storm into the Chancellor's Office and arrest Palpatine. But afterward, I calmed down... Things were not that simple."
He shook his head. "The fact is, we cannot simply go and arrest Palpatine."
"Why not? He's a Sith Lord!" Master Lei-Gul said loudly.
"But he is also the lawful Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. There is nothing wrong with his official status, because the Galactic Republic Constitution does not state that a Sith Lord cannot serve as Chancellor." Master Windu said, "Furthermore, that intelligence came from another Sith Lord, the Archangel of Death. We could not confirm its accuracy, and naturally, we could not act on the word of another Sith Lord to move against the current Chancellor of the Republic."
