Padmé Amidala did not know how she made it back to her office. Distraught, she curled herself up on the sofa, trembling from head to toe.
Dormé hurried over to comfort her, but Padmé smiled and shook her head. "Go back first, Dormé. I want to be alone for a while."
"All right. I'll be right outside. If you need anything, you can notify me through the comm at any time." Dormé did not insist. She gave a bow and left the office.
Once the office door closed, the tears Padmé had held back for so long finally burst forth. She no longer suppressed the emotions in her heart and sobbed uncontrollably... her cries were nearly heart-wrenching, leaving her hoarse and spent. She slipped from the sofa to the floor. On the soft carpet, she beat her chest and stamped her feet, consumed by regret...

She believed her own carelessness had caused Anakin's death.
Over the past few days, even after seeing Order 66 issued personally by Anakin, Padmé had still believed she could bring her beloved back to the light. She had thought her unwavering love, together with the deep familial love of his mother, would be enough to make Anakin change his mind.
But who could have known that in less than a day, things would end like this!
