The Republic fleet was given no time to react before thirty capital ships had already entered the battlefield!
Strictly speaking, however, those thirty capital ships did not enter the battlefield at the same location.
First, fifteen Hell-Angel Class Battlecruisers jumped to the nearest point to the battlefield, then immediately headed toward the Xuanwu Titan warship.
Next, five Durov-class Battlecruisers jumped to a slightly more distant location and formed the second echelon alongside the Kohl-class Battlecruisers.
Finally came ten Calamity-class battlecruisers, which only moved to a distance of five light-minutes from the main battlefield. This distance was highly suitable for Particle Beam Lances, because five minutes was often not enough time for some large capital ships to carry out major tactical maneuvers. Minor evasive movements could be entirely calculated by advanced fire-control AI.
At this distance, the Particle Beam Lances could still maintain a decent hit rate.
More importantly, the XX-9 heavy Turbolasers equipped on the Knight-class and Hunter Class vessels had an effective range of ten light-minutes. But they were, after all, sublight weapons. Beyond five light-minutes, accuracy was no longer worth mentioning. Once the Calamity-class's radar detected the direction of enemy fire, it could wash its face, brush its teeth, and only then begin evasive maneuvers.
Moreover, the enemy's fighters were almost certainly unable to leave their battle formations and fly so far out to attack. Without the cover of large warships, fighter groups could easily be shot down by enemy countermeasures.
Even now, the Galactic Republic still did not know why its fighter groups had suddenly slowed down during the previous encounter in the Paks System, only to be shot down in large numbers.
Though this Fourth Civilization fleet was not large, every move was lethal. In just over ten minutes, it had deployed a highly layered formation
