Chapter 1610: Protracted War
20 BBY, July 21, 2:00 a.m. Galactic Standard Time.
Several dozen more logistical ships arrived in the Yag'Dhul system. Protected by five shield ships, they linked up with the logistical vessels that had arrived earlier, jointly forming a logistics base capable of ship repairs, field hospitals, ammunition processing, and more.
Throughout this process, the Galactic Republic 20th Army's main fleet maintained a force consisting of only 30 Hunter Class Battlecruisers, 10 Knight-class Star Destroyers, 1 Commander II-class Dreadnought, and 70 small and medium warships.
From a distance of ten light-minutes, these warships continually exchanged fire with the defenders in the Yag'Dhul system, but achieved very little. Even when they targeted Yag'Dhul itself, the planet's powerful Planetary Shield made such firepower utterly insignificant.
Then, several dozen brilliant beams suddenly flared to life and struck the shields deployed by the shield ships!
Almost at the same moment, the powerful shields deployed by all five shield ships instantly collapsed! After those devastating beams faded, a thin red linear beam and a spiraling beam remained intertwined along their trajectories.
"General! It's the enemy's Particle Beam Lances!" On the bridge of the Commander II-class Dreadnought, an adjutant stepped forward and reported to Gideon Tarkin. "Twenty of them! The enemy has at least twenty Calamity-class battlecruisers!"
Gideon Tarkin was not intimidated by such a force. He merely snorted. "The Separatists are really willing to spend big... Twenty Calamity-class ships. Fine. That will greatly reduce the pressure on our other front."
Unlike his elder brother, Gideon Tarkin was a very traditional soldier. He cared far more about military matters than politics. But precisely because of that, he had risen far less quickly than his brother. Although he had achieved excellent results in previous wars, he now had to rely on his brother's connections
