Although the disastrous defeats in the Modell Sector Raid and the Battle of Yag'Dhul were followed by emergency public relations efforts that made the Galactic Republic's high-ranking officials appear to have weathered the crisis as usual, that was far from the truth.

The Battle of Yag'Dhul was blamed on a sudden astronomical phenomenon, while although Laslo Dorit took the first share of the blame for the Modell Sector Raid, Kuat Drive Yards still ended up bearing the true responsibility for that battle.

Everything seemed to have nothing to do with the Galactic Republic, yet that was far from the case!

The failures of these two battles gave rise to a wave of defeatism within the Republic Senate. They began to believe that the Galactic Republic could no longer end this war as the victor. And the war seemed likely to continue for a long time; in the process, the Galactic Republic might very well be crushed beneath the burden.

Yet another group believed that the war had reached its current state entirely because it had been artificially escalated. The conflict between both sides was no longer a civil war in nature. Often, it even carried the will to wipe the other side out utterly.

They therefore called for the war to be de-escalated and for both sides to return to the negotiating table, to discuss the future of the Milky Way Galaxy while deeply reflecting upon the grave consequences brought by this catastrophic war.

This group was led by Bail Organa and Mothma.

It needed to be pointed out that their views differed from those defeatist senators. Their loyalty and faith in the Republic were unwavering, but they had also keenly detected traces of human interference in the course of the war. They could see that if the war continued,
