The Petition of 2,000 was highly formal, a rare document prepared on paper and handwritten. Following the lengthy document were no fewer than five pages of signatures.
A cursory glance revealed the names of senators such as Bana Breemu, Mon Mothma, and Fang Zar—Palpatine's longtime adversaries.
Anger flared in Sheev Palpatine's eyes. He calmly pressed a button on his desk and said, "Call an emergency meeting tomorrow."
"An emergency meeting? But isn't your schedule for tomorrow—" Vice Chancellor Mas Amedda's respectful voice came through the communicator.
"I said, call an emergency meeting." Sheev Palpatine's voice remained placid, yet beneath it lurked a terrifying presence that sent chills down one's spine.
"Y-Yes! I'll make the arrangements immediately!" Mas Amedda's voice began to tremble.
"That's right. Arrange it immediately. Hehehehe..." Palpatine let out a twisted laugh. "After all, it's a petition signed by more than two thousand people! This is a major matter and must be dealt with as quickly as possible..."
Once news spread that Chancellor Sheev Palpatine would convene an Emergency Plenary Session of the Senate the next day, everyone, including Bail Organa and Senator Mothma, understood that this was their final battle!
Final battle? Perhaps that was not quite the right term. Struggle might have been more fitting, because these senators had already reached the end of the road.
Either they abandoned their principles, or they fought on in despair.
