Three days had passed since April 20, known as Bloody Celebration Day...
Over those three days, the Modell Sector had undergone earthshaking changes. The formerly peaceful and tranquil life had been replaced by a terrifying white terror. Sector Governor Volgograd-Kanidi seemed like a different person, directing vast numbers of soldiers and battle droids in a massive purge across the entire sector.
In the public's eyes, Governor Kanidi had originally been approachable, kindhearted, and a man of great ambition and ability. He could squat beside a development site and eat boxed lunches with the workers, yet he could also lead millions of troops into a life-and-death struggle against the Galactic Republic.
He had led the sector's settlers step by step in building the Modell Sector, reclaiming wilderness and defeating foreign enemies. The sector's development to this day owed much to his efforts. It could even be said that without Governor Kanidi, the Modell Sector could never have developed so rapidly.
Almost everyone believed Governor Kanidi was one of their own in the Modell Sector, and he had never seemed to state a position on the matter of sector autonomy. Thus, nearly everyone believed that Governor Kanidi tacitly approved of the sector's autonomy, but his position made it impossible for him to say so publicly.
Thus, those liberals had simply assumed that once the time was ripe, Governor Kanidi would surely follow the tide of history and support sector autonomy.
