1900, Death Star
Taris, a dead planet.
In fact, 5,300 years ago, at the height of Mandalorian Crusader rule, Taris was the most prosperous planet within Crusader territory. Its population had once approached one hundred billion, earning it the reputation of "Outer Rim Coruscant."
Taris was the central transportation hub of the Hydian Way. Countless ships came and went here, bringing enormous business opportunities and immeasurable wealth, driving the planet's rapid development.
More than 5,300 years ago, Taris had been completely urbanized. Aside from the roughly 30% of its surface covered by oceans, every inch of land had been built into one enormous planetwide city!
During the city's construction, an immensely complex underground pipeline network had been built beneath the first city, forming a veritable subterranean labyrinth.
After several more centuries of development, a new second city was built above the first. The first city was thus called the "Lower City." Then, 4,600 years ago, a third city was built on the planet's surface, and the second city became known as Mid-City.
As Taris continued to prosper and develop, and as the Mandalorian Crusaders formed an alliance with the Sith Empire to fight the Galactic Republic, the Lower City and Mid-City of Taris became places where filth and vice gathered. The great Noble Houses and aristocrats of Taris then built another entirely new city atop all the others: the Upper City.
Thus, Taris became a five-tiered structure, from top to bottom: Sewers, Lower City, Mid-City, First Upper City, and Second Upper City.
During this era, Taris reached the peak of its population, with nearly one hundred billion inhabitants!
At this point, however, the planet's weakness—insufficient agricultural production due to its limited surface water—began to emerge. Nearly all of the planet's 30% ocean coverage was blanketed by kelp farms for food
