2017, No Escape
Admiral Yves had no idea how he had survived those ten minutes. Or perhaps he had remained stunned the entire time, leaving him completely unaware of what had even happened during those ten minutes.
Two thousand fighters. These were not two thousand flies. No—even if they had been two thousand flies buzzing about everywhere, they should not have all been swatted dead within ten minutes, right?
Yet that was exactly what had happened in those ten minutes.
Countless drones had poured out of that blood-red warship, completing the battle with terrifying efficiency in just ten minutes. Two thousand fighters—annihilated!
"That's impossible! How could they do something like this?" Admiral Yves gritted his teeth, suddenly turning around and roaring at his adjutant. "Tell me, how exactly did they do it?!"
That was right. Most of the two thousand fighter pilots were elites as well, and their flying skills were top-notch. Against such a large number of drones, they could have used their fighters' advantages in speed and firepower to pull back and maneuver at range, then launch proximity-fused high-explosive missiles to destroy the drones in waves.
The adjutant was sweating profusely as well and hurriedly replied, "The scanners have results. There are simply too many enemy drones! Their numbers have reached... one hundred thousand!"
"These tiny drones are barely over a meter long. There's no way they can possibly threaten our fighters' shields! And how are they controlling so many drones?!" Admiral Yves roared.
He was exactly right. There were indeed two problems.
What could a drone barely over a meter long possibly carry that would break the shields of their twenty-one-meter fighters? Lasers? A laser on a drone just over a meter long would be more like a squirt gun.
Missiles, then? What Fire Control Radar could
