Hammer-class frigate
This was the first type of frigate produced by the Fourth Civilization. It was 31.4 meters long, short and squat in shape, and its main weapon was a twin-mounted plasma shell launcher.
This frigate from "Homeworld" had limited performance, poor maneuverability, and mediocre firepower. Its armor protection was its only real advantage. During the early days of the Fourth Civilization's rise, with no other options available, they produced quite a few Hammer-class frigates. To increase their firepower, the mass-produced version replaced the plasma shell launcher with a turbolaser cannon. Fortunately, turbolaser cannons were not difficult to find on the black market in the "Star Wars" universe.
However, the early Fourth Civilization had no capability to produce turbolaser cannons itself. As a result, the Hammer-class frigates used whatever models were available on the black market, with no standardized specifications whatsoever, and their combat power could not be guaranteed.
After the Wraith fighter entered full-scale production, the Hammer-class frigate was abandoned. Even second-line escort fleets disliked it, and they could only be dumped onto the black market at low prices. So even now, do not be surprised if you spot Hammer-class frigates among the fleets of some insignificant space pirates.
Knight-class frigate
This frigate was designed around the same time as the Hammer-class frigate. It was 28.5 meters long and had a sleeker hull. Compared with the better-protected Hammer-class, the Knight-class frigate had more balanced performance. However, the Fourth Civilization was under pressure to survive at the time, so it did not place much importance on warship maneuverability. This same philosophy could also be seen in the later Pulsar-class frigate. Thus, the Knight-class frigate was not adopted by the military.
