The droid Carl Kestis called BD-1 was a BD-series exploration droid manufactured by Behold-Urwar Droid Concepts.
It had a telescope-like head and a pair of reverse-jointed mechanical legs. It had no arms, but it was extremely agile, hopping nimbly across the ground on its two legs like a little bird.
BD-series exploration droids were produced to assist pioneers with exploration missions in complex environments, and could also perform simple repairs on starships and other equipment. Their compact, agile bodies allowed them to work in a variety of complicated planetary environments and narrow maintenance corridors.
However, Behold-Urwar Droid Concepts had no other products. After the Clone Wars broke out, its BD-series exploration droids were abandoned by the market because they could not meet combat requirements, and the company eventually went bankrupt.
Combined with the inherent dangers of exploration work, very few BD-series exploration droids remained in the Milky Way Galaxy.
However, Carl Kestis had always been tight-lipped about where his little droid came from. Even when his friends asked, he only said that it had been a gift from a friend in the Empire.
He had now worked on Annaj Planet for ten years. Given his work experience, he should have been promoted to a management position long ago. But Carl Kestis had always been cautious, never staying with one company for too long.
