2889, The Final Struggle (Part 1)
The Fourth Empire's fleet continued its bombardment of the Death Star, yet it still could not stop the Death Star from advancing.
The distance between the two sides had closed from thirteen light-minutes to eight light-minutes, and the Death Star was still advancing.
At the same time, the Death Star began returning fire.
The dense array of Turbolaser cannons and heavy laser cannons mounted on the Death Star also opened fire. Most of the Death Star's guns were positioned around its equator, and their concentrated firepower instantly swept toward the Fourth Empire's fleet.
Yet such conventional firepower was secondary. The Death Star's truly terrifying threat was its dreadful superlaser cannon. This weapon could destroy an entire planet with a single shot!
In fact, the Death Star's design philosophy had grasped the core of space warfare.
Because before this, no matter how space wars were fought, they had always revolved around planets. Both offense and defense were ultimately about planets. The Death Star went straight to the point—it ignored your fleet entirely and directly destroyed the planet, rendering any fleet useless.
Marshal Matt Horner stood on the bridge of the Archangel Titan warship, his gaze heavy as he watched the Death Star steadily approach.
Beside him, several Givin technicians were working feverishly through calculations. One of them looked up and said, "Your Excellency Marshal, according to our calculations, with our fleet's current firepower, it would take at least more than two hundred hours of continuous bombardment to destroy the Death Star."
Another mathematician added, "Leaving aside the high possibility that the Death Star has an extremely comprehensive self-sustaining system, more than two hundred hours of continuous bombardment alone is beyond what we can accomplish."
"Don't fight the Death Star head-on! Withdraw immediately!" Matt Horner said.
