Wraith fighters took off one after another from the hangars of the Behemoth-class battlecruisers. Rather than remaining in space, they activated their shields and plunged directly into Christophsis's atmosphere.

Each Behemoth-class battlecruiser had a standard complement of twenty-four Wraith fighters.[Note 1] A total of 240 fighters pierced the atmosphere and flew straight toward Crystal City to join the aerial battle.

The arrival of these stealth fighters dealt a severe blow to the Republic Air Force, which had made no preparations whatsoever for Anti-Stealth measures. More than seventy fighters were shot down, and the rest retreated into the range of the landed Acclamator-class assault ships, relying on the warships' powerful radar targeting systems to fight the stealth aircraft.

However, the already limited number of Wraith fighters had no intention of truly competing with the Galactic Republic's vast fighter force for air superiority. They only needed to make sure that bombs did not keep falling on General Volm Lotham's head all day.
