Background

In the mortal world, cultivators who ascend beyond the Three Gates and Three Realms are called Dao Lords. The title True Lord is replaced by Dao Lord after ascension. Their abilities are regarded as those of true divine spirits rather than ordinary mortal cultivators. 340 421

Dao Lords are commonly approached through consecrated effigies, worship, visualization, incense, and offerings. A sect's own ancestor Dao Lord is considered the easiest to communicate with and summon, while un-consecrated household statues generally provide little more than spiritual comfort. 18 27

In the Great Thousand world, Dao Lords rule through temple-based fiefs. Their authority is tied to a Jade Body divine statue, local land, believers, and offerings; losing the statue can cost a Dao Lord their Commanded status and domain. 558 574

Worship and Manifestation

• Consecrated Dao Lord statues may emit pure light that protects travelers from evil spirits; the light differs in hue, brilliance, and majesty according to the effigy's power. 26 31
• Cultivators may need to worship and visualize a Dao Lord over a long period before receiving a response or being able to cultivate associated methods. The Thunder Seal, for example, requires devotion to the Divine Firmament Demon Subduing Dao Lord. 18
• A Patriarch Dao Lord may grant a cultivator a purple Dao rhythm, also called core origin, core purple, or mansion purple, which is essential to forming a Golden Core. 152
• Incense and offerings can strengthen a Dao Lord's divine body and perception. The sincerity of the offering matters; in Ba Snake Mountain, Crimson Blood Ginseng only benefited a Dao Lord after being offered with the Louse Tribe's devout wishes. 544 568
• Blood and human sacrifices are practiced in some territories, but individual Dao Lords may reject them. Qingyun Dao Lord explicitly forbade both bloody and human offerings. 546 554

A Dao Lord's fief functions as their dojo and principal source of localized authority.

• Commands within a fief can draw upon the land, void, temple, and Xuanhuang Earth Qi. 558
• A Commanded Dao Lord can ordinarily handle several wandering Dao Lords of the same Fruit Position by relying on their Jade Body and territorial authority. 634
• A regional authority can override a lesser fief's control of its own heaven and earth. 606
• The loss or seizure of a Jade Body can end a Dao Lord's rule over that domain. 574

Divine Sense and Divine Body

Dao Lords operate through spiritual manifestations tied to their statues and fiefs.

• A divine sense body may manifest outside a temple, though the Void Sky's pressure limits how freely it can move. 558
• Newly ascended Dao Lords normally awaken their spirits gradually, but exceptional individuals may manifest divinity earlier. 544 546
• Refining a stone statue into a Jade Body improves a Dao Lord's perception and capacity to wield divine might. 544
• A divine statue must retain a wisp of divine sense when its owner leaves; otherwise, wandering Dao Lords, Outer Demons, or other entities may occupy it. 574

Dao Lords retain and elevate the Great Dao methods cultivated before ascension.

• Their divine positions can amplify Great Dao methods into overwhelming suppressive power. A fifth-rank divine position is described as authority belonging to a Void Sky Dao Lord. 416
