History

Skypieans and Shandia fought over God Island for four hundred years after the Golden Land was carried into the sky. Before Julian’s arrival, Gan Fall ruled as Skypiea’s god, while the Shandia lived at Kumogakure 39 66.

Julian’s forces arrived on eight warships and advanced on God Island. Gan Fall surrendered after Julian displayed his power; Julian then confronted the Shandia and declared God Island open to both peoples. He brought down and rang the golden bell to announce that Skypiea and the Golden Land were real, and ordered the factions to live in peace 79 80 81.

Julian renamed Skypiea the Flame Dragon Heavenly Kingdom and developed the Flame Dragon City of God around its Temple. He used his Earth-Earth Fruit ability to enlarge God Island and build roads toward Angel Island, Birka, and Kumogakure. He later extended the land to Angel Island, linking it to God Island 81 82 88.

Government and Residents

  • Ruler: Julian, called the Flame Dragon God by residents, governs Skypiea. Gan Fall serves under him as Great Priest 81 82 87.
  • Peoples: Skypiea’s population includes Angel Island residents, Bikans, and Shandia. After Julian opened God Island to settlement, residents from these groups moved toward the City of God 81 82 87.
  • Population: Skypiea had over 160,000 residents during its early development under Julian; a later account places the population near 200,000 87 192.
  • Currency: Julian introduced gold and silver coins in place of the previous Exter currency 82.

Development and Strategic Role

  • Housing and land: Julian built housing and expanded the City of God. Gan Fall later directed the harvesting of Island Clouds to create additional land 82 192.
  • Oxygen: Skypiea’s thin air initially exhausted Julian during large-scale earthworks. A later planting of Rose’s third-generation Oxygen Grass significantly increased its oxygen content 81 195.
  • Shipbuilding: Residents worked on the Flame Dragon Ark. Julian also ordered an Air Force Base built in front of the divine capital, intending to use the ark as an air-force warship 192.
  • Training: Julian brought thousands of warriors from Flame Dragon City to Skypiea for extended training and assigned Fujitora Issho to instruct them 195 196.
  • Security: Julian regarded Skypiea as a hidden rear base for the kingdom, with the City of God serving as a potential refuge if conditions on the Blue Sea worsened 81 97 192.

Local Resources

  • Skypiea Shells: Wind, Flame, Impact, and other shells are used in equipment and weapons, including Waver, Burning Cannons, Flame Sprayers, and Laser Guns 84 87.
  • Birka: A major source of weapon-making shells and the location where Julian obtained the Rumble-Rumble Fruit and a blueprint for the Golden Maxim Ark 80 87.
  • Angel Island: Home to Happy Commercial Street and the White Beret Unit, which joined Julian’s forces 80 84.
  • God Island: Contains the Temple and the Sky Vine, where the golden bell stood before Julian moved it to the Temple 66 81.
