After the young man entered the room, a crowd gathered around to question him.
"Meng Lan, how did it go?"
"Did he agree to search for the missing people?"
The young man waved a hand, his face full of dejection. "No. He refused outright..."
Then he repeated what Wenren Sheng had said.
Everyone was stunned.
"I knew it. Otherworldly Users are naturally immensely capable. He must have known we were plotting against him. We're finished—we've lost our only support!" Hu Mei regretted it bitterly.
When Gaunt Director Liu heard this, he too looked as though his parents had died.
Those plans had died before they could even begin.
"What do we do now?" someone asked impatiently.
"Nothing."
"Sigh, if we'd known this would happen, we might as well have stayed put like everyone else. We could have muddled through. Now look at us—we've only made things worse!"
"Enough. Isn't there good news too? He said we're free to stay or leave, which means we can remain in this world, earn money, and cultivate on our own." The somewhat steadier middle-aged man spoke up.
"Hmph, Li Gang, you make it sound easy. There aren't any jobs here for highly qualified people like us," someone complained.
The middle-aged man shook his head slightly.
He had realized that among these dozen or so people, only a few were worth associating with. The rest had nothing but ambition, yet only wanted to rely on others.
Another discussion ended without result. That was the norm.
After the meeting, the middle-aged man, Li Gang, did not leave immediately. Instead, he secretly sought out three people he thought highly of and held a small meeting.
"Those people are incapable of accomplishing anything and only good at ruining things. They aren't worth plotting with," he said bluntly.
"Exactly.
