"How did you know they wouldn't want them?" The drunken mage swayed to his feet, then cast an Anywhere Door spell.
That move stunned everyone in the tavern.
Why else would they call them mage lords? Any general understood the immense strategic value of that trick. Anyone who did not was no real general.
The drunken mage then passed through the Anywhere Door and arrived at the recruitment site.
"Sir, please register over here." The priest at the recruitment site was extremely enthusiastic.
After all, this was a divine decree. The previous saint, Mondell, had received divine favor and gained an enduring life after inventing Sealing Art.
"Fine. My name is Luante. I am an Order Magician proficient in all seven schools of magic..." The drunken mage went on and on, making the priest's eyes shine.
If he had known what a résumé was, his eyes would not have shone like that.
"Excellent, excellent. If you pass the assessment, we will grant you A-grade treatment. There are five grades in total: S, A, B, C, and D..."
When he heard that even D-grade treatment came with unlimited wine, the drunken mage deeply regretted drinking so much in the past.
What kind of wine had that been? Cloudy and bitter, all of it wasted on his stomach. Worse still, it had made him forget so much important magical knowledge...
He then went to take the assessment.
During the assessment, he was delighted.
He had originally thought it would be difficult to fool professional mages, but he discovered that all the mages brought in to assess him were people he either knew or had heard of.
They were either card-playing buddies or drinking buddies. Not a single one was a laboratory mage.
That was only natural. What laboratory mage would rashly defect
