"What happened?" Yang Weite asked the Captain.
"Chief of Staff, she led the recent attack here. Those Radiation Hyenas had been hunting her, and when she ran near our camp, they switched targets," the Captain answered.
"Oh, what's your name?" Yang Weite asked.
The skinny, dark girl did not answer. She merely bit down on the index finger she had stuck in her mouth.
"Give her a piece of candy."
A soldier took a hard candy from his pocket and placed it in the Little Girl's hand.
She sniffed it, then immediately stuffed it into her mouth.
After finishing it, she continued staring blankly at them.
"She can't understand us?" Yang Weite said with a headache.
"She should be a descendant of the Devolved Humans," the Captain suddenly said.
"Devolved Humans?"
"They are settlements that have lost Civilization and the inheritance of knowledge, retaining only primitive intelligence. At best, they are a little more advanced than people from the Neolithic Age. We call them Devolved Humans. It looks like we really have arrived in the Barbaric World," the Captain said helplessly.
"I see. Let me think... Got it. Handy Teacher." Yang Weite waved, and Handy Teacher, who had been pestering the Soldiers in the distance, floated over.
"I just used my Gatling to kill eight dogs! Impressive, right?" Handy Teacher said smugly.
"Very impressive. Can you communicate with this descendant of the Devolved Humans?" Yang Weite pointed at the Little Girl.
"Yes. Back when I followed Old Popsicle—no, the esteemed Teacher Knight—traveling all over the place, I dealt with them quite a bit. Later, Teacher Knight got more capable followers and abandoned me at the manor. Luckily, I still have you," Handy Teacher prattled on.
"Hahaha, all right. I won't do that. Please talk to her."
