Background

Lu Taiji was imprisoned in a dark underground chamber, where part of his divine soul served as the wick of a Heaven Lamp. His release required someone to identify the Heaven, Earth, and Human lamps among seventy-two identical lamps, extinguish them in the correct order, and reassemble them into the Heaven Lamp. A mistake would destroy his divine soul and permanently cost him one-tenth of his origin. 248

After meeting the trapped creature, Lu Nan gave him the surname Lu and named him Lu Taiji, with “Lu Bao” as a nickname inspired by his black-and-white coloration and the yin-yang concept of Taiji. Lu Taiji accepted the full name but repeatedly objected to being called Lu Bao. 248

Lu Nan solved the lamp puzzle, restoring part of Lu Taiji's strength. After Lu Taiji devoured a spiritual plant supplied by Lu Nan, he recovered further and requested Lu Nan's vital blood for a third release step. The resulting blood contract was initially described as changing their equal bond into a master-servant contract, though Lu Nan still promised they would remain brothers. 250 251

Lu Taiji thereafter accompanied Lu Nan as a powerful protector. In the White Sword Secret Realm, he killed a Heavenly Human pursuing Lu Nan's allies by crushing his body and consuming his fleeing soul. 254 He later fought for the Azure Lotus Sword Sect in exchange for food, helping defeat the Soul Refining Sect's Heavenly Human ancestor. 270 271

After Lu Nan was believed dead, Lu Taiji guarded the critically injured Ye Hanyan and Liu Qilan, refused Miao Feng's offer to recruit him, and hunted Boiling Fire Cult cultivators to consume their divine souls and increase his strength. 407 408

In the Upper Realm, Lu Taiji was captured by the Cold Crow Demon King after stealing a Bone-Washing Flower for Lu Nan.
