"Will taking the stairs let me leave?" Sun Hang asked again.
No response.
"Then why should I listen to you?"
No response.
"I have a question. Are you afraid of me?"
No response.
Sun Hang stopped asking questions. He directly swung his short blade, slicing open the elevator doors as easily as tofu. But just as he was about to leap into the elevator shaft, the foot he had stepped out with pulled back.
The steel cable suspending the elevator car was nowhere to be seen inside the shaft. In its place was the same bottomless darkness that lay beyond the glass curtain wall.
Deep down, Sun Hang instinctively felt that this darkness was extremely dangerous. Once he fell into it, he might never be able to escape.
"I'm curious. Why didn't you just use this darkness to swallow me whole?" Sun Hang asked again. "Or can't you control the area covered by this darkness, and can only wait for me to run into it myself?"
The building did not answer Sun Hang's question. The display beside the elevator doors had also returned to normal.
Was taking the stairs really his only option?
The stairwell entrance was in the corner of the elevator lobby. Near the baseboard hung a green illuminated sign reading "Emergency Exit"... As for whether this exit was actually safe, that was another matter entirely.
Sun Hang noticed that the stairwell door had been locked shut—normally, constantly closed fire doors like this were strictly forbidden from being locked, and they would not even have locks installed, so people could escape smoothly at the first sign of disaster...
But then again, this was a haunted Office Building. Any so-called logic was naturally complete nonsense here.
The shape of the keyhole on the door looked familiar to Sun Hang.
