Background / History

Ye Jiu is one of the many sons of the Ye family and the elder brother of Ye Xuan. His brother Ye Qi explains that, aside from eldest brother Ye Quan, the family's sons were named according to birth order; Ye Xuan is their youngest sibling and their father's only daughter. 93

He became the eleventh Qualified User of Slaughter, an Anomaly Equipment set originating from elite Tang Dynasty cavalry. The armor's prior users were gradually consumed by its killing urge and became murder machines. Ye Jiu studied their records and developed his own countermeasure: using violent video games to exhaust and blunt Slaughter's influence. 69 294

He was dispatched from Chunming City Institute One to reinforce Tianfu City during an Anomaly crisis. He jumped directly from his aircraft, leaving his identification and luggage aboard, because Ye Xuan had been aboard a crashed helicopter and her fate was unknown. 68

Personality

Ye Jiu is outspoken, impatient, and initially arrogant toward people he considers uninformed about Anomalies. He is prone to sarcastic remarks and boasts, yet quickly becomes serious when danger threatens his allies or family. His urgency to find Ye Xuan and his repeated concern for Sun Hang's safety show that his abrasive manner does not reflect indifference. 68 100

His deliberately absurd, game-like attitude is also a survival mechanism. Rather than relying solely on discipline, justice, or psychological conditioning, he uses humor and virtual violence to resist Slaughter's addictive desire to kill. This has made him unusually successful among the equipment's users. 69 294

Ye Jiu cares deeply about honor and personal responsibility. After the Research Institute incident, he accepts that his concealed instability tied him to the deaths caused by the impersonating Oddity, and he chooses dangerous service over a restricted, monitored life. 408

Ye Jiu arrives as Chunming City Institute One's reinforcement during Tianfu City's crisis, confronts Sun Hang over Frost Cutter, and explains the nature of Anomaly Equipment and Qualified Users. He then joins Sun Hang against the shadow-based sky Oddity, but his strongest attack fails to destroy it. 68 69 71

He coordinates the Shadowless Lamp plan against the same threat, arranging a massive drone light array. Witnessing Sun Hang's immunity to the Oddity's shadow makes Ye Jiu cautious of Sun Hang's unknown connection to a single-digit-sequence Oddity. 73

Longyanlei Operation

Assigned to the Guard Group during the Longyanlei Induction Operation, Ye Jiu reluctantly protects Bao Si despite fearing her uncontrollable charm ability. He also settles his two-million-yuan debt to Sun Hang using Ye Xuan's activity funds. 96

Recruitment and Investigation Work

As Tianfu City requires more field operatives, Ye Jiu works with Sun Hang on recruitment and training plans, despite openly admitting that his expertise is individual combat rather than instruction. He later handles intelligence reports concerning Jude La and Shang Dalin. 237 239

Chunming City Fallen Zone

Ye Jiu joins Wang Xiyi, Candle Dragon, Ling Xiao, and Jiang Yu in searching Chunming City's fallen zone for Sun Hang. He fights the Metal Giant Snake, identifies its vulnerable “seven-inch” point, and helps destroy it. 271 276

After being transported into the Black Armored Cavalry battlefield, he learns more about Slaughter's history and recognizes the central dilemma of its users: abandon the armor or abandon themselves. He chooses a third path—remaining mentally clear amid slaughter. 293 294

Cult Investigation and Interrogation

Ye Jiu oversees Sasha's interrogation after the Hunter Villa district attack. Though uneasy about using an Anomaly for interrogation, he permits it under Song Yarong's authority and extracts information about the cult, Tai Sui worshippers, and dream messages from the “Holy Lord.” 384 385

When Sasha cannot identify the Holy Lord, Song Yarong assigns Ye Jiu to uncover the figure's true identity. Ye Jiu acknowledges that interrogation work is poorly suited to him but accepts the responsibility. 386

Slaughter Crisis

Slaughter's influence worsens after the fallen-zone operation. Ye Jiu isolates himself, repeatedly plays games to suppress the killing urge, and begins suffering severe hallucinations and dissociation. 392 393

An Oddity impersonates Ye Jiu and massacres Research Institute security personnel while the real Ye Jiu lies unconscious in Slaughter inside his dormitory. Sun Hang destroys the impostor, while Ye Xuan and Sun Hang wake Ye Jiu and forcibly remove his armor. 404 405 406

Though the murders were not committed by the real Ye Jiu, he accepts that his hidden instability enabled the crisis. Slaughter is sealed, and he is placed into an eternal ice coffin under restrictions while considering dangerous future missions as a way to regain his value and honor. 408

Ye Jiu later insists on joining a high-risk operation despite his unstable condition. He believes that Slaughter's remaining Meme power will eventually erode him even if he never wears the armor again, and chooses action over waiting to become a threat. 595
