Maxim instantly cursed "suka" in his heart and pressed the communications button on his headset... However, the vanished window had not only blocked his way out of the building; it had also cut off all contact with the outside. The squad's previously clear comms channel was now filled with nothing but crackling static.
"Anomaly, huh?! Fuck whatever kind of Anomaly you are, just die already!!"
In the depths of despair, Maxim's ferocity suddenly surged forth. He twisted around in an instant, braced one hand against a support structure beside him, and raised his submachine gun high with the other, aiming toward the source of the sound.
In the beam of his tactical flashlight, he could see an Anomaly that appeared humanoid but moved on all fours, scuttling rapidly along the building's internal supports.
It moved with extreme agility, leaping back and forth across the tangled supports. Maxim's light could not pin it down at all—every time he caught its body in the beam, it would swiftly spring away and vanish back into the shadows beyond the light.
The Anomaly was fast, and its evasive movements were utterly unpredictable... But at that moment, the fear in Maxim's heart was gradually fading. A savage grin spread across his face as he cursed loudly in Russian, "Bastard! If you keep dodging, that means you're afraid of bullets, right?! Then just wait to die, fucker!!"
Maxim switched to a two-handed grip on his submachine gun, the muzzle tracking the rapidly moving Anomaly. It was less than twenty meters away now. At this distance, even against a high-speed target, he was confident he could hit it!
He did not need precise single shots. As long as he could rake the Anomaly with fire, the specially made 9mm submachine gun rounds would tear its body apart!
