Was this good luck? Or bad luck?
Old Xu thought about it for a long time.
Surviving a situation that should have been certain death... that counted as good luck, right?
But as the price, he had turned into an anomaly...
When Old Xu had first joined as an investigator, he had considered this question many times.
Given a choice between death and anomaly transformation, which would he choose?
He had pondered that question from the day he joined until now, yet he had never come up with a definite answer.
Even so, emotionally speaking, he still leaned more toward death.
He had seen colleagues who transformed after being infected by memes—they either became terrifying monsters and were eliminated by investigators and hunters; or were taken back to the Anomaly Research Institute and "harmlessly disposed of" once their infection could no longer be controlled; or simply became research material for those lab coats, suffering all kinds of inhuman torment before being sliced apart or cryogenically preserved...
Compared to those outcomes, death did not seem so frightening anymore.
Once an Anomaly Meme completely erased a person's self-awareness, that person could no longer be called human, and naturally would no longer enjoy any human rights.
But what puzzled Old Xu was... why had he retained the self-awareness of a human despite becoming an anomaly?
Could it be that he had not completely transformed yet and still counted as an "infected person"?
Old Xu sat up and examined his "new body."
His body now resembled Frankenstein's monster. The entire thing had been stitched together from charred, swollen, or rotting chunks of corpses. In certain places, he could even see "metal parts," seemingly taken from the wreckage of that Amphibious Motorcycle. Old Xu could even feel gears meshing and turning inside his body.
