"What did you call her, then?" Sun Hang asked, pointing at the utterly bewildered Xue Yue.

"She is a 'fruit,' a 'fruit' borne by this 'tree.'" Lin Lun said. "In fact, 'fruits' and Faceless Ones are complementary parts of the same system... It's just that she is a particularly special 'fruit.' Rather than calling her a 'fruit,' I think 'seed' would be more fitting."

"Are you sure you graduated from Chunming City Second Institute of Technology, not an agricultural university?"

Ignoring Sun Hang's jab, Lin Lun pulled something resembling a remote control from his pocket and pressed one of its buttons.

Amid the sound of rollers grinding, a white icy mist spread through the room, and a large steel cabinet welded together from metal slid out from the wall beside them.

The cabinet was packed neatly with more than a dozen transparent coffins. They looked somewhat like the cryogenic coffins commonly found at the Anomaly Research Institute, but a closer look revealed that these coffins lacked the numerous complex life-support systems and monitoring devices of cryogenic coffins. They were nothing more than simple containers.

More than a dozen corpses of young men and women lay inside the transparent coffins. The reason they could be called corpses was that large purple-red patches of livor mortis had already surfaced on their skin. Had they not been kept in a low-temperature environment, they would likely have long since decayed into nothing but skeletons.

Sun Hang could not sense any life force within those bodies, nor could he detect any aura belonging to an anomaly.

The coffin lids were marked with numbers from "#1" to "#18" in black marker. A label had been affixed beside each number, but the labels were covered in a thick layer of frost, making their contents impossible to read.
