A stalk of Worm Grass was like a magical artifact, or a signal amplifier.
Spirit Worms could continuously release some as-yet-unexplained power into their surroundings through Worm Grass, then infect creatures of the same kind. This allowed those creatures to draw upon Earth Power and refine it into magic, becoming magical herbs or magical materials.
The Blood Fang Fungus Mushroom Insect Grass growing on the rotten wood looked like a huge slice of white bread covered in countless dollops of strawberry jam.
That strawberry jam was as plump and dripping as fresh blood.
"My lord, this is Gum Blood." Horace, the newly recruited ranger, pulled out a small jar from a hidden compartment in Wolf Head Cavern. It was filled with thick, purplish-black paste. "After all Blood Fang Fungus magic herbs are harvested, they are made into Gum Blood."
Russell leaned closer for a look, then frowned. "What a waste. This Gum Blood is nothing more than crudely ground Blood Fang Fungus mixed with a bunch of miscellaneous ingredients. It doesn't bring out the Blood Fang Fungus's magic at all."
"There wasn't a single potion maker in the cave. And when Lone Wolf... Lisbon was alive, he prepared it all himself. We could only get a small share now and then."
The process of making Magic Potions was extremely complicated.
High Nobles generally trained specialized potion makers to produce Magic Potions. Ordinary people lacked the skills; even if they acquired magical herbs, they could not make Magic Potions.
This was also the nobility's technical monopoly.
"Katie, take people and seal up this jar of Gum Blood. Bring it back to the manor annex later." Russell unceremoniously claimed the Gum Blood for himself. Though he looked down on such crude paste, it would still make a decent reward for his subordinates.
