The time came for the festival when little Castorice attended the public gathering. Beneath the night sky and its cool evening breeze, little Castorice stood beside a stone pillar, watching enviously as the other children sang and danced around the bonfire.
She recalled the words her godmother, Amunet, had once told her.

As little Castorice stared blankly at the bonfire, a soft young girl's voice suddenly spoke beside her.
"Castorice, if you don't mind, why don't we be friends? We can use this branch to hold hands through. What do you think?"
The girl smiled as she asked the startled Castorice.

Little Castorice looked in surprise at the girl, whose face was full of anticipation and encouragement.

Little Castorice slowly reached out, cautiously taking hold of the other end of the branch. Then she silently began walking side by side with the girl.
Though neither girl said anything and they were still strangers to each other, their tacit silence, along with the connection formed by the branch, greatly lifted little Castorice's spirits. Smiling, she quietly walked alongside the girl and watched the lively scene around them.
Listening to the girl's cheerful laughter, she smiled too. It was the happiest moment she believed she would ever have in her life...
She was finally no longer alone, but Amunet's words once again echoed through her mind.
