After a good night's sleep and breakfast, Ronan led his subordinates out onto the street. Their journey would last four months, and although they would pass through towns, they still needed to procure enough supplies to deal with any unforeseen circumstances. Ronan had learned that the entire caravan traveled by horseback, with all livestock loaded onto carts. Therefore, considering his subordinates, Ronan decided to buy a few horses.
Last night, Ronan had an incredible stroke of luck and recruited 10 Kujit Iron Cavalry from the "Light and Darkness" mod. As the top-tier troops of the Kujit Khanate, each one cost Ronan five gold coins, and their weekly salary was a hefty five silver coins, making Ronan lament again how quickly money disappeared.
These formidable cavalrymen were level 35, clad in scale armor, wearing Kujit helmets, and riding meticulously selected excellent warhorses. For speed, the warhorses were unarmored. Their weapons included six javelins strapped to their backs, a fine iron spear, a heavy saber, and a round, iron-studded cavalry shield.
Their addition elevated Ronan's strength considerably. However, it also significantly increased his expenses, forcing Ronan to consider how to make money. After inquiring about which goods fetched the highest price difference between Ravenwood Town and Sinterland, Ronan calculated. He set aside enough money to pay his recruited soldiers their weekly wages and some reserve funds, then converted the rest into a scarce medicinal herb in Sinterland and packed it into his backpack.
This reminded him of his past life playing games, where in the early stages, lacking money, he could only trade between major cities while also robbing passing "greenwood heroes."
After purchasing daily necessities and stocking up on goods to sell in Sinterland, he also bought twenty ordinary pack horses and a small cart. Eighteen of these were for his subordinates to ride, and the other two would pull the cart filled with supplies.
After having lunch at noon and picking up his repaired armor from the blacksmith, settling the final payment, Ronan returned to the tavern to rest. However, the tavern's stable was too small to accommodate all the horses, so Ronan had to ask some of his subordinates to take the horses outside the town to wait for the caravan.
Upon returning to the tavern, Ronan overheard many mercenaries and adventurers discussing how alien races were attacking the town, claiming Ravenwood Town was in grave danger and that anyone who didn't leave would die there. Ronan shook his head, not taking any of it to heart.
In the evening, Ronan met the caravan outside the city. Although he didn't know why they were departing at night, he had accepted their money and didn't ask further questions.
The caravan wasn't large, with only three carts of goods. Ronan guessed they were likely carrying valuable items; otherwise, such a small amount of cargo wouldn't be worth the trip to Sinterland. The caravan consisted of about twenty people, most of whom were guards. A few management personnel were inside one of the carts, and Ronan even spotted Daisy, the receptionist from the Mercenary Guild, among them. Puzzled, Ronan decided to ask her later when he had some downtime.
At this point, the caravan leader approached. The leader was a sturdy man, about 1.8 meters tall, with a buzz cut. He wore a blue robe, and judging by the marks, he likely had armor underneath.
"Hello, you must be Commander Ronan. I am Belicha, the leader of this caravan. Our safety for the upcoming journey is in your hands."
"You're too kind, Leader Belicha. Your caravan's guards are quite capable; we're more than enough."
Haha, Commander Ronan, you haven't been to Sinterland, have you? The roads are quite dangerous. Our amateur personnel are no match for it. We're departing tonight and should reach an abandoned watchtower by noon tomorrow. We'll rest there briefly before continuing. If it's alright with you, shall we depart now?
"Certainly. I'm not familiar with the route, so I'll leave everything to your arrangements. I will ensure your safety."
Belicha smiled and turned back to his caravan. The caravan began to move, with Belicha's cart at the front, Ronan's cart at the rear, and the cargo carts in between. Ronan and his group rode their horses, interspersed with the caravan guards around the convoy.
Other than the cold night wind making Ronan regret not putting on his robe, nothing happened. The caravan moved steadily. The next morning, the caravan arrived punctually at the abandoned watchtower Belicha had mentioned. It was a small place with some dilapidated walls surrounding it, and a stone watchtower about five meters high in the center.
The caravan set up camp, lit fires, and started cooking. Ronan and his men also took out their dry rations. At this point, Belicha invited Ronan to join them for a meal. Ronan thought for a moment and did not refuse.
Sitting next to Belicha, Ronan saw Daisy again. She was carefully eating a roasted sweet potato, her small brows furrowed slightly when she accidentally burned herself. After chatting with Belicha for a while, Ronan got up and sat next to Daisy, asking:
"We meet again, Miss Daisy. What are you doing with the caravan? Did you quit your job at the Mercenary Guild?"
"Ah, you're the leader of that Calradia Mercenary Group, what was his name... Roderick, right?"
"Haha, your memory is quite good. You remembered me after only meeting once."
"Well, it's because your mercenary group's name is very strange. I was entrusted by the Bishop to work as the accountant for this caravan because I'm very good at math!" Daisy said proudly, her eyes curving into crescent moons as she spoke of her strength, looking very attractive.
Ronan couldn't help but chuckle. Seeing Belicha finish eating, Ronan said to Daisy:
"Impressive, Miss Daisy. I won't disturb you further. I need to discuss the upcoming itinerary with Mr. Belicha. Goodbye!"
Waving goodbye to Daisy, Ronan stood up and returned to Belicha. Before Ronan could speak, Belicha said first:
"Commander Ronan, we'll rest here for five hours. Everyone is tired after traveling all night. We should reach Ye Ruige Town before dark. We'll rest there and continue our journey after dawn. After passing Ye Ruige, we'll have to traverse the Vizan Plains, which will likely take about ten days to get through. There are many horse bandits and wild beasts on the Vizan Plains, so we'll be relying on Commander Ronan's team then."
"Understood. You all rest, and I will arrange for my subordinates to take shifts guarding. Ronan nodded and returned to his team. He arranged for his subordinates to take two shifts of rest and then lay down on the cart to sleep.
Five hours later, the caravan tidied up their tracks and set off again. Ronan sighed, lamenting his fate as a busybody, as he had only been out of the forest for a few days before embarking on another journey. He felt a sense of anticipation for the upcoming trip to Sinterland. After all, this was his first long journey since arriving in this world, a good opportunity to understand it better. Moreover, he had heard that Sinterland was a kingdom governed by Elves, and after meeting Dorodamenro, Ronan had developed a deep anticipation for Elf beauties.
